How many oz can your pouch actually hold and how far post op are you?

Depends on what I'm eating, honestly. 2~4 ounces usually. But if it's greek yogurt, I can eat a solid 5 and be hungry in an hour.

Such a great question! I have no idea what "the answer" is, but I know that I'm 13 days post-op and I can eat almost 8oz. of yogurt at once with no discomfort whatsoever. Which scares me... I assume (and hope!!!) that when I get to solids, I will be able to tolerate (much) less.

meats or dense Proteins I weigh out at 3 ounces and I am satisfied. I can eat a good 5 ounce container of yogurt and be satisfied. I am almost 6 months out.

Great question! I'm 7 weeks out & I have no problem eating 2 egg whites & could probably eat a third with no problems! I eat an entire container of yogurt (are they 4 or 5 oz??), I can eat 4 oz of cottage cheese no problem. Then again, one night I made taco's for my family & with a couple of tablespoons of the meat, I made myself some nachos using crackers instead of tortilla chips. I used 5 crackers & melted a sprinkling of lowfat mexican cheese blend, a couple tablespoons of the meat mixture, chopped tomatoes, a dollop of fat free sour cream, then topped that with salsa. I skipped the shredded lettuce because I'm afraid to eat lettuce yet. I sat down & everyone was salivating over my nacho's, including me! I ate 2 & was stuffed! My sons finished the rest. Go figure...I guess because meat is heavier is why I couldn't eat much of it but maybe 1.5 hours later, I was hungry again!

So just like our foot size varies from others, our stomach sizes vary. My husbands stomach is bigger than mine. When they take out 85% of a big stomach, what's left is bigger than 85% of a small stomach, right?

Sleeved on the same day as me, he can reliably hold 4 oz of solid Protein at a time, I can reliably hold 2 oz of solid Protein at a time. We are only 5 weeks out, but it's very predictable.

I suggest for those of who who wonder about their stomach capacity, don't worry about yogurt, Soup, liquid, saltines, bread, etc. Test it by eating dense protein and you will know for sure.

Depends in the day for me. At three months out, I can eat 1.5oz of dense Protein one day and 3oz of the same on another. I've not figured out if it's due to a moon phase, which direction I'm facing, whether or not my socks match...

Absolutely no rhyme or reason! It just is what it is. I am learning to serve myself in 2 oz portions and if I go back for more, great!

I'm also 10 months out. Can u tell me what your eating looks like right now. I'm trying to gauge my eating. I usually have 3 meals, which are mostly a Protein and then a small amount of veg. And 2 Snacks, usually a protein shack in the am and a half a Protein Bar or some crackers(carb) in the pm. Thanks for sharing!

I have coffee early in the morning around 6:15- then I will have an egg with maybe some turkey bacon or sausage or cheese around 8. Then I eat beef Jerky or something around 10:30. For lunch I will have tuna or lunch meat or maybe an Atkins meal- today I had a 4 count grilled nuggets from chick fil a because I was out running around. Then I will have cheese and crackers later this afternoon and I am making Salisbury steak for dinner, so I will eat that with mashed cauliflower tonight.

Ok, so you don't really rely on Protein shakes/bars? My nut did tell me she wanted me to try getting Protein from foods... And how big are your portions? My meat is usually 3-4 oz but I feel like I don't get enough veggies or carbs. Are you still in a loosing phase or maintain?

I'm losing- very slowly still. I hate shakes and they all made me throw up (literally I tried everything one can buy online or in a box store with no luck) at 6 weeks my dr had me supplementing with bars- I had one for Breakfast this morning because I was volunteering at 7:30 and didn't wake up in time. I'm 14lbs from my goal and 2 from the surgeons, so we will see what it takes to get there. I still eat carbs (trust me)- I just don't indulge in a lot of them. I had a chick fil a waffle fry today for goodness sake!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
