pre-op weight loss

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I am going in for surgery on Tuesday 9/3. I have been doing the pre-op diet faithfully (my only cheat was 1/2 caf coffee and 1/4 of a pickle spear) but I don't think I have lost weight on this diet, which is terrifying. Has anyone else not really lost prior to surgery? There was a little line on the informed consent I signed that said "some people may not lose any weight and some may lose more than 100% of excess weight" and that keeps playing in my head. I mean, this is going to work, right?!

I lost 20 prior to surgery by eating half of what I did usually. They want you to lose prior to help shrink your liver a bit so that it's less of an issue during surgery. I am 3 weeks out and have lost 12lbs. I have not lost any weight for the past week. I know this is normal, and that the weight WILL come off once my system has completely adjusted. Everyone is different and will lose at a different pace. I DO NOT compare myself to anyone else as they are not me, and you should do the same.

VSG is a tool to aide in weight-loss and should always be viewed as such. What YOU chose to do after, is up to Y-O-U. I can also confirm that without the VSG, I would not have lost 12lbs in two weeks. So, this being said, I can ALMOST guarantee that you WILL lose more weight with the surgery, than you would without. In speaking for myself, I am very glad that I did it and have no issues with head hunger as of now. I am satisfied quickly when I eat and have to really focus on Protein and Water, which annoys me, but I know this is a LIFELONG commitment. I WANT THIS! I am a very slow loser, but as long as I'm losing and not gaining, I am satisfied with my progress. Women tend to gain 1-5lbs temporarily each month, for obvious reasons, but it's just Water.< /p>

Stay focused, eat right, exercise faithfully and you WILL meet your goal eventually. :)

That phrase is just "CYA". Don't worry, you will lose IF you follow the program...

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
