1 month after post op loss

Recommended Posts

Wow I'm very happy with the weight loss for my first month post op 23 pounds, this does not include my pre op weight I lost. I'm motivated to keep going and hope to be at least down to 250 lbs by my b day in October.

How much did you loose during your first month post op?

I lost 18 pounds my first month. Then I hit a stall and didn't lose for a month. After that I normally lost about 8-10 pounds a month for the next 6-7 months. Everyone is different, so it is hard to compare, however most people do hit the dreaded 3 week stall, so be mentally prepared for it to come. Good luck to you! I hope your reach all of your goals! :)

everyone is different. I lost a lot preop, yet had no loss for 2 weeks post surgery. I average a 1 to 3 # loss a week now. I just "keep on keepin' on", it'll all work out!

just to show the differences among us...I had my surgery 10 days before lipsticklady, and my surgery day weight was 5 lbs more than hers...over the 4 months, I have lost only 45 lbs. compared to her 68....we also have the same goal currently of a weight of 150 lbs....it may take me longer than lipsticklady to get there, but I still plan on getting there, so when we both achieve our goal, it won't really matter in the long run how long it took each of us to reach it...I do understand your concerns, though, about whether you are "normal" and I am still always comparing myself to others here who are on the same timeline as me...I recall that I lost around 20 pounds my first month post-op, and the biggest monthly weight loss I have had has been that first month post-op

I'm 2 months out and I've lost 40 pounds the first month and 30 pounds in the second month and my starting weight was 365.

Can I just say how glad I am to see posts from people who are actually HAPPY about their losses? None of us could have lost this type of weight before surgery so I'm really, really glad to see threads where we acknowledge that is a fantastic tool.

I'm 4 weeks post op and I'm down 25 lbs. Over the last 16 days I've lost "only" 5 lbs and am plateau'ed, but given I've now lost over 10% of my starting body weight, I understand that is typical.

For the record, the last time I lost weight this quickly was when I was dying, bed-ridden, and could only consume 1/2 a Protein shake, and 1/4 of a Peanut Butter sandwich all day! The time before, it took me 6 months to lose 13 lbs and I was walking 4 miles a day and eating under 1000 calories and was hungry all the time.

I have lost this time from feasting on crab cakes, yummy eggs, sausages, chicken curries and other goodies. Thank you Universe!

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
