August Sleevers...how are you doing? Any friends near Monterey?

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved on August 1st! Guess what?

I can put my own shoes without feeling like I'm dying...

No more stress incontinence....

Goodbye Diabetes!

Best of all I'm not obsessing on food anymore....

I started at 257....pre op diet got me to 243...this morning I weighed 214.5lbs

I'm even starting to see body parts I haven't seen in over a decade... Back pain and foot pain are a thing of the past...

Feeling good!

Bookworm,

Congrats! Good for you. I was looking at your ticker and you are nearly halfway there. I am also experiencing the little unexpected joys along this journey such as easily taking three flights of stairs without breaking a sweat. I'm starting to see some body definition too and the shoe thing is awesome isn't it?

We are surgery date buddies :) I got so sock of the Protein Shakes my body actually started rejecting them, so now I eat egg salad or chicken salad to help. How is your liquid intake? Mine went good the first few days, but now it hurts to drink liquids, food doesnt bother me but even half an ounce hurts!

Amen! I am so sick of Protein shakes myself! UGH!!! I can't stand most of them anymore because I think I have had too many, their too sweet now.... My biggest problem now is getting the amount of protein the doctor says to get in....not happening even close, and it's not that I am not trying.... I am only getting about half. Anytime I have meat, beef, chicken or turkey- it gives me killer heart burn....and 3 oz, forget it, I can't even eat that, 0.5 to 1.5 oz, is all I can actually eat, drives me crazy when I know I use to eat a big mac and just love it!! ahh the memories, lol. I think my mind and my body are at war right now, and I am stuck in the middle....I hope things come to a peace treaty soon.....

Oh, don't cry!!!! I went on vacation for 2 1/2 weeks, and gained 5 lbs...but when I got home, I got back to my walking, even walked a little extra and a week later I was down 7 pounds... so it's ok...every body is different. I have been holding at 220 for a few days, just dropped that one pound today...so I would go weekly and not daily in checking weight, also, each week I add a little more exercise, so I am constantly pushing myself to do more, walk an extra block or do 10 more of this or that.... don't give up!!!

I am trying. I am concerned I might b getting too many calories if that is even possible so I have been tracking my meals on my fitness pal. Today my calories are split evenly between fat/carbs and Protein I have hit around 1000 cals.I started with a lower bmi and I have 1 stone 7lb left to lose - or 21lb if you are in US. I know that this is a tool but I thought that I could relax around food and have something of what I fancy from time to time but I don't think I can get away with it. ????

Sleeved 8/26

I have not been getting all my Water, Protein and Vitamins in...

I started this whole process back in May- where my highest weight was at 229

I am now at 168-

I feel very hungry and I'm having a hard time eating slowly so I've been experiencing the sliming effect this week- I know I need to eat slow but it is very hard for me to do because I am an on-the-go type of person...always on the clock!

I am loving the way my body has changed- my brother in law said I looked like a whole different person and it felt good to hear that- I might add that I'm actually wearing some cute little tight jeans that make me feel kinda "sexy"- haven't had that feeling in forever-

I weigh in once a week so we'll see where I'm at tomorrow...

I'm also struggling with this whole not drinking 30 minutes before/after a meal...

Never realized how difficult it would be to adjust to this new lifestyle...

I like the app "Lose It" I can log everything, food & exercise and it shows me a daily cal/fat/protein %. It goes off a 2lb a week loss at most, but I can go in and fix the daily calorie intake, so I am good. My daily allowance for me is 860, but I don't even come close. Im just not hungry. But I really like that I can see those Proteins to carbs ratios. You have to have an off day once in a while or splurge on something you love, because life is too short not too. We didn't do this to suffer, we did this to live better, so if you fancy something from time to time, go for it I say.... just do a little extra exercise to make up for it! Hope you feel better!

HEY GUYS!!!! The stall is FINALLY OVER after over two weeks!!!! If anyone is interested, FYI mu calorie goal is 900 but I usually eat beween 900-1200 calories..however I do frequent the gym to earn those extra calories... So I net about 500 calories appoximately...

If you hit a stall DO NOT BECOME DISCOURAGED... it will pass...

And yes I too get bored of Protein powders (NO MORE chocolate powder ew!) But Syntrax makes a bunch of good flavors that are nice to switch up...My fave right now is fuzzy orange and the latte one.... Most of my food is lean meat...It fills me up... and I am not eating simple carbs that I am addicted to...like rice or Pasta...

rice is the devil in food disguise as far as it goes for me...

I am so glad that stall is over... It sucks knowing weight loss won't be as easy as it was in the beginning, but I won't stop till I lose that 100 lbs! For me that means logging ALL my food, taking all my Vitamins, workout at least 40m minutes of cardio at least 6 times a week and eat Protein as my main food source... AND not giving up when I have a bad eating day or haven't seen any losses for awhile...

WE CAN DO THIS

How long was your stall? I think I've been taking in too few calories thinking that would make the scale move MORE. . . Errr that was a negative. Glad to see your stall has passed.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
