5wks out and 40lbs gone!

Recommended Posts

Well this week started my 5th week. I have lost 40lbs!!! I can't believe it!! I'm starting to adventure out from to my soft food stage. But I find things really cause my chest to hurt, has anyone else had this symptom?

I only have that problem if I eat or drink too fast, then it feels like everything is stuck in my chest. If I eat slower, I don't have that problem.

Feel the exact same way. Sometimes it just get's unbearable, and I end up throwing up. I got worried and thought I had a gastric leak, but now that I'm feeling better I'm hoping it was just a temporary phase.

Do you have any tricks for the esophageal spasms?

Also, I'd really like to know if any of you could share your post-op diets with me. I am also 5 weeks post-op, but I'm having a hard time with my diet. I have not lost the amount that I had expected.

Thank you,

Hanna xx

Excellent. I hope to have lost that much at 5 weeks. I was sleeved on 8/12 and am down 13.5 lbs since surgery date which was a week ago. I just started Protein shakes today. What I have noticed is if I drink Crystal light or anything besides plain Water I have no issues but sometimes not all the time with plain Water I get like a minor pain. Kind of like a small gas pain. Now that I hear about drinking too fast I'm going to slow it down. Maybe that's whats happening.

Hi Hanna, I too was having esophagus spasms and my dr recommended me to drink something warm. I drink Decaf hot herbal tea, and decaf coffee. I have been unable to tolerate the Protein shakes so I basically just consume all my Protein. I usually have eggs, tuna, shredded chicken, cheese, milk, basically anything with protein :) but I can only eat about four bites.

I'm going to try the eating slower. I thought I had slowed down but with my job I got use to gobbling my food so it's a hard habit to break.

That sounds so good, looks like you're getting everything you need. In the morning I drink a glass of Vitamin Water with no sugar, for lunch I have some chicken soup and for diner I have another glass of Vitamin Water. That's what I usually eat. This week I was so tempted and ended up eating half a slice of white toast with some ham. It hurt me so badly that I never got tempted again lol. I got no sleep that night, and felt like I was going to die for the first 30 minutes. So, that was definitely a huge mistake on my part.

Thanks for your reply,

Hanna xx

That sounds really nice, I'm definitely giving that a try tonight, and will let you know how it works out for me. I need to start getting my Proteins because I am definitely not getting enough of those. Do they contribute to weight loss?

Thank you so much for your reply,

If I eat one mouthful too much or whenever I drink Water I get this pain. After reading all the comments in this thread I think I might try warm Water. Thanks everyone !

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
