Vitamin frustration

Recommended Posts

I bought my first batch of Vitamins from my surgeon's office (Fusion vitamins). Then I got a bariatric food catalog and found out I paid twice what they cost in the catalog. Anyone else have this happen? Kind of ridiculous.

I was told to just my Centrum complete, and was given a list of others to buy on my own. That sucks!

Okay, so how many Vitamin suplements are we talking about normally? I am in the process of making my decision on the surgery and I know people are always talking about the Vitamins. Can you tell me how many vitamins a day you have to take?

I was told by my NUT to take a multi that was plant based for absorbency; Calcium citrate; and B12. I also take Vitamin D for my own personal needs.

I started on nutrametrix multi and Calcium, which is isotonic and easily absorbed. I threw it up the other day and so it is making me nauseous (hopefully temporary) and so I am using Eco Drink, which I like. It is powdered and can be diluted and tastes like tang.

I make it a habit to research prices before I buy from a brick and mortar store or in your case Dr's office. In my Dr's office, they recommend some but I buy elsewhere. Hopefully you did not buy too many so for your reorder you can buy cheaper.

I fell for this too. I bought from a couple of sites recommended then I looked at Amazon and found them cheaper (from the companies themselves).

I now take 2-Flinstone Complete, 1-B12 (dissolves on the tongue from Vitamin Shoppe) - or the liquid drop, and 2-Cal Citrate (OTC).

My Dr also has me on gallbladder and PPI meds which are both taken twice a day. This schedule was harder to get flushed out than the Water or Protein requirements.

All of them (except the PPI which I take with my multi) have to be taken 2 hours apart.

Unfortunately, Physician's offices are in business to make money. Many nutritional supplements are available under their own label, when if you research them, you can find the same ingredients in products at less then half the price. I don't think they can insist you buy the products from them. They're available and encouraged because they're convenient. (one stop shop). My Doc sent me a list of recommended Vitamins with different brands and those available at costco, Sams and Walmart. He has a site connected with his web page, but never even suggested it.

During my follow up this week, my surgeon told me not to take a B12 sublingual and to instead take a b complex Vitamin. He said that b12 isn't as big a concern as getting B1.

Oh wow, I'll ask about that next visit with my Dr.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
