I'm scheduled for surgery on August 19th that was the most exciting call ever. However immediately after hanging up the phone the nerves set in.

How soon after surgery are you guys planning to go back to work?

I was off work for 6 weeks, but that appears to be atypical with the other patients on this forum. My doc said take as much time as possible, and I scheduled 5 weeks but needed an extra week. A lot depends on what kind of work you do, is it sedentary or physical. I needed to be able to lift patients and have a clear fog free head, that took a bit longer in my case.

Congrats on your surgery date!

I have a desk job. I had my surgery on a Tuesday and returned to work FT the following Monday. I didn't even tell anyone at work about my surgery. I felt fine.

Oh ok I'm taking a week off. I haven't told anyone at my job I'm wondering if I should.

I work at a desk and still required 4 weeks off. I would say try to at least take 2 weeks and go from there. Sometimes we feel like we're fine, but there are lots of post-ops who return too quickly and end up out again. Better safe than sorry.

Plus you can always go back early if you just can't tear yourself away for the extra time. ;)

I work for myself and run a small agency so I didn't have the luxury of taking time off like I wanted to. Three days post-op the phone was ringing. Really I can do one-two meetings a day but more than that tires me. I'm supposed to go back full-time next week and although it's a desk job, it's also a lot of thinking, talking to clients, writing presentations, deciding how they should spend their money, and I am hoping like mad I will have a clear head by Monday which will be 10 days. I wish I could take 2 weeks off.

I work at a desk and was back to work in a week, the only people I told at work were my 2 bosses who were super supportive.

Good Luck!

lady

congrats on receiving that wonderful, life changing phone call :)

One thing all us sleevers have in common, is that we're all different!!! ;)

recovery, weight loss time period, tiredness et al - we all react differently

many people go back to work very quickly, they feel fine :)

as mentioned above -- other people need more time to recuperate :(

as someone else suggested, request more time off than you might need

if you feel fine - go back to work :)

maybe starting with 1/2 day for a week

if you are tired, little pain - stay home and rest!!!!!

good luck with WLS :)

speedy recovery

kathy

If possible ask for two and see how you feel at the end of the first week.

I was planning on taking 3 weeks but I ended up with a hernia and took 4. Do you have a full time job? If so look into fmla (short term disability) see what your company pays for. I had to take the first 5 days as sick and the rest was fully paid and no vacation time was deducted.

I told everyone at work about my surgery and I took two weeks off...I work at best buy/geek squad as a customer service agent and it's a pretty physical job, lifting tvs and computers...doing occasional carry outs. Well lets just say...I should have taken more time off! I was so sick when I went back to work that I ended up in the hospital for dehydration! I'm about 5 weeks out now and doing much much better.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
