What happens to your skin

Recommended Posts

Hi guys. I was just wondering what people's experiences have been with their skin. Does it go back to normal at all? Does it just hang down? Is the problem just in the belly area? Thank you for sharing your experience

There are so many factors e.g. age, weight you have to lose, genetics, rate u lose the weight, Water intake, exercise etc. The main one is age in my opinion - the younger you are the better your chances.

My personal experience @ 9 months post op : I am 26 and have lost 106lbs so far and pretty much at goal. I was fat all over and currently no loose skin. I have strength trained since month 2 and believe this has helped immensley.

It is not just stomach - common areas also include underneath arms, inner thighs, and breasts.

Thank you! I am 31 so I'm a little older then you and over that dreaded 30 mark. But I am looking into a personal trainer to make sure I do the strength training to aid it as much as possible

My skin has rebounded pretty well, except my arms. I've got an appt with the PS in November to get that excess skin removed. She said that the arm skin is the hardest to bounce back, because it's so thin? Guess it makes sense. I'm 41, so it might not have been an issue had I done this 15 years ago. :)

Thank you for sharing your experience! I worry about any plastic surgery at this point in my life because I want to have kids and I'm afraid if I take the skin away what will happen when I'm pregnant. But I also don't want yucky saggy skin because instill have to meet a guy lol. And because I will be super self conscious about it. I really appreciate how open and honest everyone is on here!!

I am 27, almost 28 (lol) At first I thought loose skin was going to be a really big problem for me... I am 90lbs down and just about 8 months post op... My skin is starting to tighten up... I for the first time have hope! LoL. It was just as if one day I looked in the mirror and it had actually started to look more normal... Now my stomach still pretty much looks like a deflated balloon but it is beginning to get tighter!

Working out will def make a difference! It will also change the shape of your body and give you more definition. Its never to late to work on body fat percentage. Might help you drop some dress sizes too! Also the more muscle you have the more calories you burn naturally during the day!

I don't think it's too late to start. Building muscle is building muscle, so go for it....I think it can still help.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
