I don't have an exact date but October is the month. The issue is I can't decide between Dr. Ariel Ortiz at OCC and Dr. Aceves. I think I'll discuss it with my PCP this week and see what he thinks. Hopefully he's not pissed that I'm going to Mexico. I live in Southern California so it's pretty convenient.

Rockyritz, good luck with the pcp. Hopefully they cooperate. And hope you get a date soon. I live in Illinois and I'm having my surgery at the University of Chicago. Fortunately my insurance covers it, I'm only responsible for $250.00 If I would of known that I would of done this a long time ago.

Good luck Missy. I am scared too but more scared of health risks later if I can't get this weight off. I have hypothyroidism and some other medical issues and have tried for 13 years every diet, exercise program out there and NOTHING! My fear is I'll be the only person in history to have the stomach shrunk and not loose a pound.

I am planning on October but I'm starting to freak out a bit. Been researching nonstop and thinking and thinking and waaaay over-thinking and I'm driving myself crazy! Has anyone else gone through this? I've got a bad case of the "what if's?"

Rocky

I was in the same position you are in literally last week. Once I booked my surgery date, I started FREAKING OUT. I started feeling tense in my chest, shoulders, and arms and I was panicking thinking I made a rushed/bad decision, I need to stop being lazy and do this the old fashioned way, I'm going to die..... all these thoughts making me crazy. I finally had to join this site (I was stalking before that (grin)) and I PMd one of the vets on here who had surgery with the MD I'm using. I was on the verge of needing to call my PCP for some Xanax! After she messaged me back and we chatted back and forth, I calmed down and tried to switch my attitude. Instead of looking on here for bad experiences to talk myself out of it, I started researching my Protein drinks and looking at before and after threads and seeing people's progress (most of them lose really REALLY fast after surgery) and think about how great it will be when I get there. I have kept busy with work and I also decided once I lose 100lbs, I'm going to buy myself a Louis Vuitton bag (I'll buy clothes too, but I've wanted one of those for a long time).

I'ts really hard and I'm not perfect so I know as Oct 7th approaches, I will definitely need more support. Thankfully everyone I have reached out to on this site is not only doing fantastic postop, but are very kind, optimistic, and supportive.

Reach out to a few people and see what happens.

That is really great advice that I am going to follow. I need to stop looking for bad things that "might" happen and focus on the good and why I'm doing this. My husband is not worried about me having the surgery at all (He's one of those laid back positive attitude all the time people), and I wish I could be like that instead of stressing over every little thing. I'm just going to keep praying about it and start planning on what I need to do post-op. Thank you for the sound advice.

I feel like I steped off a cliff. The pit of my stomach is fluttery and I can't weem to accomplish much.

My mind is fine with it but I'm not so sure about the rest of me.

I did the same thing. The minute I got of the phone after booking my date I pretty much had a panic attack. I go through the buyers remorse over and over again thinking I should try on my own again but I just keep reminding myself of all ths times I tried and failed before. I wouldn't be obese now if I could do it on my own. I'm exited and terrified and don't know

if I'd be half as comfortable with it without having this forum to read through.

I'm expecting to be early October. I've completed everything except my psyc evaluation and that appt is 9/4. Then I'm ready to be submitted to insurance. I figure about 2-3 weeks for that, then they'll schedule surgery :)

My surgeon doesn't require a preop diet, but I've been eating high protein/low carb since I attended my seminar last March. I've lost 50 lbs on my own and can't wait to get sleeved. I still have about 95 lbs to lose.

I go to my last appt with my NUT at the end of September then I can submit to the insurance. I have Cigna. Probably looking at late October for my surgery date. I'm so excited but the thing I'm scared of most is the pre and post op diet. I have failed at every other diet so what if I fail at this?!?! I guess my fear of being hungry is what got me to this place anyways.

I understand how you feel. I have been doing research for the past 3 months before deciding. And interestingly enough, my top 2 choices were Ortiz and Aceves as well! Personally, choosing Dr. Ortiz just felt like the right decision for me. Everytime I considered it, Ortiz just felt more comfortable of a choice for me. My husband isn't worried about me getting the sleeve, which I think takes a lot of worry from me because he isn't worrying about it too. I really hope that you can make a comfortable decision for yourself. I will be there October 4th. Good luck deciding!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
