Good luck tomorrow!!! Please let us know how you're doing afterward when you feel up to it!!!

I think I am doing ok. My blood pressure keeps being low and my drain is leaking more than it should. But pain is totally not that bad! Just trying to get some rest for now

I am scheduled for Sept. 24th! I'm sooo nervous and excited all at the same time! I can't wait to see myself transform into something that I can finally be proud of seeing on the mirror or pictures! :)

Good luck Kayleen! You should already be proud, for taking the hardest step and undergoing this procedure. Hugz.

I found out the past few days why I haven't told to many people. I actually had someone whom I thought was a big help for me in the past tell me, I was taking the easy way out. I about wanted to burst into tears. I held them back & said, you obviously have no idea what this is... Now my decision is solid. No one else will no. I don't need that in my life, it's part of why I am the way I am, I don't need approval from anyone, this is my life & I'm taking it back for me. :)

Monday is my surgery. When I was getting my EKG today for pre op the nurse asked me if I was getting the bypass and I said no I'm getting the sleeve she told me she had the bypass 2 years ago and I am making the best decision of my life. Se said she is so happy for me and she gave me a hug. It feels so good for other people to tell you about it. And damn. She had a nice looking body. It just reaffirms my decisions through and through. Omg the 9th here I come.

That's awesome. I work at a plus size clothing store and I've seen MANY customers get the different surgeries. I've seen them lose weight and gain so much confidence. When they come in and tell me they can shop in the regular stores now, I always say that I will miss them but I'm so proud of how far they've come. Then they tell me they'll always come back and just wear the smallest size. Haha Suuuure. The only complaint I've really heard was the skin but they didn't seem all that upset about it. Oh and they're not shy to show me. Scars, loose skin, saggy britches and all. Actually had a new customer come in that had the sleeve in April and is down 62 pounds! She said not to be scared, you're in and out, and it will be the best thing you ever do for yourself. Her husband is 18 months out and looks phenomenal. She said they wasted so much time going out to eat. Now they go on so many adventures and even bought a motorcycle! She even told me to call her to let her know how I was doing. I love meeting people like that.

That's so good to hear! I love reading these kinds of posts :). September 9th is my day and I'm doing day 5 of my liquid diet and to be honest I don't find it too bad at all. Kind of empowering actually! Makes me really feel like I can do well with the sleeve. Good luck September Sleevers!!

Had my pre-op with my surgeon yesterday, averaging about a pound a day on the liquid diet. I am very ready for Monday... I have waited for something like this my whole life, now I know why it didn't happen until now, because now I worked really really hard for it.

I can't believe the 11th is 5 days away!! I got my medical clearance from my pcp today, I also am averaging at a lb a day, my pre op diet is 10 days long with Clear Liquids and Protein Shakes, a cup of non starchy veggies (which I have had 2x). With losing the 6lb it made my day!!

Surgery is 5 days away, Sept 11! Last night I fell off the liquid wagon HARD! I ate some chips, 2 pcs of toffee and 6 Gummy bears. I can't believe I did it, and I was so upset afterward. I've been doing so well otherwise, not sure what happened. It makes me doubt I am mentally prepared ready for this. Of course I'm full steam today, but the slip up keeps haunting me!

Today is my last day off work until surgery day so I'm trying to get organized and the house clean. Next day off I'll be leaving my house at 3:45AM so that I can be at the hospital by 4:30!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
