Feeling afraid of failure

Recommended Posts

Hey all:

Sleeves July 10th... Surgery went great. I'm healing nicely, with the exception that I found out that I am very allergic to the glue used to close my incisions (needless to say, I've been itchy). This evening I stepped onto the scale and noticed that I haven't lost much (-1lbs) since my post-op appointment last week. I'm following the food plan and have been tolerating the foods great. I'm no sure how soon I should feel different and notice a change in weight. I lost 25 lbs from the pre-op diet.

I feel a little anxious that I may be the only person in the world that ends up with zero success from having the sleeve.

Anyone else encounter this wave of nervousness about 1.5-2 weeks post-op?

Thanks!

I had my surgery July 12th and feeling the same way. I lost 12 lbs on pre-op and 4 lbs since surgery. I am consuming 600-750 calories/day and still hungry. I'm feeling somewhat discouraged.

No one could have been more afraid of not losing an ounce than me. Take a deep breath. Eat enough calories and make sure you get your Protein. The weight will definitely come off. I am 6 weeks out and have lost about 30 pounds. I have lost inches more than pounds. It really will happen. We are in this together and we will get thinner. Try to concentrate on eating what you need and not the scale. The scale will drive you crazy.

I can relate to your fears. I have been overweight for almost ten years now, and it's become hard to imagine my life any different. I had completely lost hope, and honestly, I'm just faking it right now, following instructions and going through the motions.

Plus, I'm at the three week mark, and that's a notorious time for little-to-no movement on the scale. With good reason...somewhere on this site there's a link to an article that explains why it's perfectly normal at this time in my recovery.

But on top of that, I was hungry around the clock. That was the really demoralizing part. I knew that if that hunger kept up, I would gain back the 19 pounds I had managed to lose in no time flat.

Thankfully, I followed the advice of many vets and tried taking Prilosec. It turned out what I thought was hunger--and geez, 30+ years of dieting and you would think i could ID the feeling of hunger!--was due to excess stomach acid. So my appetite settled right down, and at least, I don't feel despair anymore.

I still can't imagine being successful. And there's still no movement on the scale, but I've got nowhere else to be. I'm a teacher, and it's an unusually quiet summer around here, so I guess I'll just keep on keeping on. :)

Good luck to you!

I am in the same boat. Had surgery on July 12 and only lost 2 pounds. I am on 400 Cal a day. Pre surgery I lost 20 pounds. Its so frustrating.......but i guess in time it will come off, once we start exercising.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
