Q's about your support group...

Recommended Posts

Howdy y'all! I'm from a little-bity town in west Texas and I have been asked to start a WLS Support Group. I need some ideas...

1. What do y'all DO at your support group meetings? What is the agenda and goal?

2. I need ideas for a clever name for our group... can you help me out!

3. How often to y'all meet?

4. Are there any materials that I CAN get or NEED to get to have available for members!!

We usually have a guest speaker at our support group. We've had counselors talking about food addiction, another one talked about transfer addictions, a trainer talking about how muscle burns fat. We also have a clothing exchange.

The nurse will sometimes pass out information she has down loaded off the internet-some interesting article on WLS she finds.

then we each talk about how we're doing. We meet once a month.

Free nutritionist. Clothing exchange. Share samples of prepared food options, along with recipe cards for that food.

mine is sponsored by and held at the hospital where I had my surgery, although it is open to the public...the hospital's bariatric nutritionist organizes and leads the meeting...there is a discussion topic (such as eating out at local restaurants) and then time afterward for sharing experiences and asking questions...no clothing exchange but that is a good idea...no name for the group either--I think it would be best to let the members suggest and vote on a name

We have a patient started support group, one of FOUR I attend each month!! The other three are at area hospitals here in Plano....Our group is 'informal' - we do not have speakers. It is held at a local restaurant on the third Saturday of each month (Tomorrow!!) at 12:30. This place is known for healthy choices, healthy portions and lets us have a room in the back!! I think this is our sixth month/meeting.....our first one there were less than 20 and 47 have RSVP'd for tomorrow. Kevin, who started this group, introduces himself and give us a brief description of HIS story, then we go around the room and everybody else does the same. We visit, do questions and answers. Like I said, it's informal but it's good. We have had people who are pre-op and I'd say I'm one of the veterans that is furthest out. (3 years last month) It is good to have this meeting on a Saturday, there are many who cannot attend one after work during the week. I hope this helps. (West Texas? Where at?)

Oh, the name of our group, THINspirations!! :)

Methodist Hospital both in Dallas and Mansfield hold monthly support groups, it might be an idea for you to attend one of them to see what they do. I'll be happy to PM you email and phone number of the contact person if you're interested.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
