I was going to have it, but I didn't want to wait ir pay the extra money. It also said that they could add a couple of incisions if needed, so I will jydt work on any scars I may have.

I'm having single incision surgery August 6th in Houston with Dr. Sherman Yu. i couldn't find a doctor in Oklahoma who does this procedure, so I'm having to travel out of state in order to get it. I'm hoping to have some "pretty" skin left for a Tummy Tuck afterward :)

According to my surgeon Prof.Basil Ammori, who had experience with single key hole, he did not recommend it. He said it is gimmick!

he said I will do it if you want to, but you want my opinion which is:

- it is against all surgey rules, because the most important rule is the projection. With one hole you insert all instuments and see from one angle.

- it is frustrating for the surgeon because mistakes could happen easier.

- the surgery will take longer time because of the restriction of movement.

- you will end up with bigger scar, that is more painful and will take longer time to heal.

I appreciate his honesty. Especially, I had to pay more for one incision which is for his benifit any way.

After all this I decided that 5 or 4 small key holes are better option for me.

I had 5 incisions with my surgery on May 16, all but one less than an inch long, and they are all almost completely faded 10 weeks later. It depends on how you heal and your skin, but the scars aren't bad. Single incision with the possibility of additional incisions would not have motivated me to travel. As it was, I was two hours away from home and the drive back afterwards was less than enjoyable. However, everyone is different.

Best of luck to you, and congrats on getting approved!

My doctor travels around the country training people on the single incision technique. Some doctors do not want to invest in the specialized equipment or bother learning new techniques when most patients are satisfied with traditional laparoscopic surgery and that is what most insurance pays for. My husband, who is a surgeon, did not express any extra concern over using this technique. He said that they are doing this with many other types of abdominal surgeries. On the upside, there is a better cosmetic result, shorter healing time and fewer incisions that could become infected. On the downside, I won't have a local support group. I will stay in Houston for a week following surgery to make sure there are no complications before returning home. So there is also the extra cost of hotel accommodations for the week. I am glad to have this option, and for me it was the one of the factors in deciding to have gastric sleeve at all.

Just following up...I'm 4 1/2 months out, down 71 pounds and I'm thrilled with my results so far. I have one 1 inch incision hidden in the inner top part of my belly button and you couldn't tell I had surgery just by looking at me. Of course I'm so happy with the way it's gone that I'm happy to spread the word about this surgery to anyone who asks how I'm losing the weight (and some who don't). I hope someone who needs it will hear about my good results and be encouraged. No complications so far except Hair loss, but it was really thick to begin with. I'm very pleased with Dr. Yu & TLC.

I had single incision about a year ago and I had no issues with it. The scar is a little bit bigger than I would prefer but everyone does heal differently. It isn't huge but it is visible above my belly button. I am about 3 pounds from my goal so I am pleased over all with the surgery.

This was really helpful to me. I really don't want the multiple incision scars because my scars don't heal well but my doctor said the thing about single incision being more difficult, having higher comp rate.

Ironically I called TLC in Houston because I saw someone on YTube who had it done there. If I'm going to get it I want it done by someone who does it all the time vs. someone who isn't comfortable with it

I plan getting it done with Sherman Yu. Getting it is like having best of both worlds. I don't have to have extra scars (don't scar well) and I still lose the same weight. I'm glad I delayed getting the reg one a little though it's going to b more exp to go to Houston . My flight alone is 700!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
