How fast do you drink your protein shakes?

Recommended Posts

That doesn't make the shake too thick or Vitamin tasting? I've wondered about that.

Nope the almond milk taste better than milk. I also put a scoop of Protein in mine. Sometimes even put berries and half a banana and but it in the blender with an ice cube makes it yummy.

At the phase you are currently at it should take at least a half hour to drink a shake' date=' as time goes by and the healing continues inside it will get easier and before you know it you will be drinking faster. Good Luck.[/quote']

Thanks I will do

1 Scoop of Protein Powder and 8 ounces of Silk or Skim milk. Then shake and slam. Longest I have take was 4min. I like to get it over with. I'm pre-op liquid stage still.

I see posts like this and wonder if my doc really sleeved me!! shakes make me really sick' date=' so I actually just ordered a sample pack of Syntrax nectar, but anyway, I can drink crystal light and other Clear Liquids pretty quickly. I can take decent size swallows and not have it hurt. I can also eat a whole hard boiled egg all mashed up (I'm in purée stage) in a half hour and be comfortable. I was just sleeved July 3 '13. I can also comfortably eat egg drop Soup (or something similar) a cup or so over an hour. Should I be able to do this?! I've lost 18lbs in the 9 days since surgery, but I'm worried once I start eating solids that I'm not going to have restriction![/quote']

I was the same way, but now that i am on solids i feel the restriction. I too was worried he didnt make my stomach small enough. I also had no problem swallowing pills from day one, so i was scared he didnt do it right but now that i am 7 wks out i can defiantly tell he did it

I used to use almond milk pre op, but now I want the extra 8 grams of Protein that 1 cup of milk add. It took me 1 hour and 15 min to drink my 8 oz shake that was worth 40 grams protein. I feel like I have eaten a turkey dinner now! I know the shake passes through the sleeve fairly quickly, but after drinking it I ( even though I go slow) I feel so full for hours. Makes it hard to get in any Water cause I feel so full.

Hanging in there! Once you are eating firmer foods you will see the difference. food takes up more space and it doesn't slide through. You are losing weight at a great pace so don't worry! :)

I add half a banana and PB2 with ice and make a chocolate, PB, and banana shake. Yum!

I'm 1 month out and my shake takes me 1-1.5 hrs depending on the size. Sometimes I do an 8oz shake and sometimes an 11oz. But I do actually enjoy my shake (call me crazy!)

I am 5 weeks post op and so sick of those things I usually want to heave when I drink them. I drink the Premier Protein drink and it is just about the only one I will tolerate at this point. It gives me 30g with just one shake so I only drink 2 a day. But honestly, I drink that darn thing as fast as I can which is usually within 10 minutes it is done. You will get there but right now your stomach is still to tender but you will notice that drinking will get a lot easier.

I use Silk Unsweetened vanilla Almond Milk or Almond Breeze Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Milk.

I use the same thing I like the texture of it and it has less calories than the generic brand

i will be on my pre-op diet soon. i make my own almond milk. so i will b using that. pretty scared to try most Protein Drinks because they dont look appealing or they have artificial sugars. i can always taste the artificial sugar, and i dont like it. soooooo...i dunno what imma do. Ive been contacting companies asking for samples. but once i get the go ahead, i may just bite the bullet and start trying them one by one.

It takes me FOREVER! Haha. While I can do more than a sip, if I do really big gulps, then I get stomach cramps. My goal now is to try and drink it before it gets hot... Bleh!

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
