6 months post op......rut?

Recommended Posts

I'm 6 months post op my vsg and I feel great!! Starting weight 240 and I'm currently 185, 55 pounds gone. But I'm sad that this is it.....I would love to lose another 30 pounds but I'd be happy with another 20. I'm only 5'1 so I easily have the extra pounds to lose. Any ways to get things jump started again?? Ill take any tips!

I'd say just make sure to track EVERYTHING you eat and make a point of getting at least 80 grams of Protein. I had a stall at about six months. However, I also weighed almost 100 pounds more than you at my starting weight. Are you exercising on a regular basis? Walking, weight lifting, etc.

I'd just suggest to not do anything drastic or starting any fad diets. To me, the whole point of this surgery was to get a handle on losing weight without fads.

Keep up with Protein, fluids & maybe increase your exercising. I'm 8 mons out and while the weight loss has slowed down, I am still dropping a few lbs per month.

I will be at 6 months in 2 more weeks and feel you are doing great. Weight will slow down over time as you get closer to your goal weight. Al I can say is eat your Protein and get your but into a gym.

The closer you get to your goal the harder you will have to work for that goal. Makes the journey more sweet.

Also, is your diet varied enough? I have found in the past on some of the MANY diets I have been on, that if I get into a rut of eating the same thing all the time, the weight loss isn't good, but if you mix it up a bit it will get going again.

I lost more weight after the 6 month mark than I did before it. My diet consisted of 700 calories or less, 20 grams of carbs or less and 6 days a week of exercise including weight training. My average loss was 2 lbs a week and I made it to my goal by Month 10. Day of surgery on June 4th I was at 229 - today I weigh 125.

At only six months out, you really need to continue following your doctor's plan to make sure that you are getting all of your Protein in.

Here's a site that kind of outlines the 2012 Points Plus plan:

http://danicasdaily.com/weight-watchers-2012-points-plus-plan/

I think the 2013 plan is basically the same, just with more motivation stuff. I have been on Weight Watchers many times, so I feel like I have a lot of the information memorized (or did before Points Plus when the formulas changed and bananas were free). It's a good plan, however with us only being able to eat about a cup of food at a sitting AND having to focus so much on Protein, it might be harder to almost have to double-count to make sure you get your protein grams AND your Points in.

I don't mean to sound discouraging, just putting some thoughts out there. :) I personally loved getting new Weight Watchers materials when they get new plans because I love reading stuff. (I'm kind of geeky that way.)

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
