2 days post-op! When will this pain subside

Recommended Posts

I'm 4 days out and the pain is much better now, Shanny. Does your doctor have you on any kind of liquid pain medication? I was sent home on day 2 after surgery with a prescription for liquid Vicodin, and it made a huge difference in my pain levels, although I'm trying to only use it when I absolutely have to.

Where is your pain located and what triggers it? Is it constant or only when you move too quickly? Definitely talk to your surgeon so they can help you manage your pain. There's no need to suffer--they don't hand out medals for bravery in the hospital. ;)

Does burping help the pain? I have pains in my stomach either when I move around too quickly or drink. But I burp and it's feels a lot better

It is normal to have a lot of pain when moving. take your pain meds for the pain. Day 2 from me I was on morphine and that helped a lot. That evening I couldn't have morphine but they gave my Loratab and it helped..... It does get better 1 day a time though. Keep on healing..... :P

You're only 2 days out from major surgery - of COURSE you're in pain, and it's normal! Keep listening to your body - sleeping, walking around & sipping liquids are your only jobs for now!

Did your doctor give you a stomach binder? Mine put it in me right after surgery and it has helped me not have the gravity pain in stomach. You might check with your doctor

I am 2 days out also. Pain med helps but makes me sleep. For me it's not just stomach pain it's my whole body feeling like I've been beat up and can't stand that my head is so foggy. I keep telling myself that each day will be better but that's not helping too much right now. I took a shower and that helped for a little while. Good luck

I'm 10 days out and still have a area in my stomach that hurts! It has gotten much better and I am finally able to get up and down and wipe myself! Haha just hang in there! I made the mistake of thinking because it was laparoscopic it would be easy! Remember we did have most of our stomach removed!!!!!

The pain definitely gets better!! I am 11 days post surgery and am feeling great! I am back to Water aerobics and trying to walk at least 2 miles every day. Walking is really the BEST thing for the pain. When you hurt, you don't want to move, but the more you move, the better things will be. A friend of mine who also had the surgery said she came home with a binder cuff (like a back brace that goes around your midsection) and she said that really helped. I did not have that, and was in quite a bit of pain for about 4 days, but by day 5 I was feeling much better. At first, it will feel like you've been run over by a truck....but keep getting out of bed. My NP suggested walking, and she said, "I don't mean to the bathroom and back, I mean to the mailbox or around the block. As soon as possible start that walking!" It will help. I still have a bit of pain with the big incision when I move certain ways, but everyday it gets better. :) Good luck!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
