Nerve issues under left arm

Recommended Posts

I have experienced pretty substantial nerve tingling or uncomfortness in a few points along my left arm, almost entirely all under arm. It starts around armpit and ends at elbow. I have not been able to pinpoint what causes it and am wondering if others have experienced it and/or have information on it. Usually it clears up after a few days, but I would rather not have to deal with the burning sensation of wonky nerve sensations. It is behaving like a pinched nerve and have had a fair amount of experience with pinched nerves as a career software developer. Sorry about not being very technical about describing Then pain in medical terminology. Do you think it has anything to do with post op dieting / nutrition or more related to bad ergonomics in my home office and long hours on the computer?

Idk but I have noticed an irritating itch in my armpit area that has been going on since after my surgery.

This sounds as if a nerve is being impinged. Two quick possibilities... an issue with the cervical spine, though the discomfort would generally radiate down the arm all the way to the hand and some fingers, or some Other compression of the brachial plexus nerve on that side.

Please see your PCP, this can be dealt with before it gets worse!

Thanks Arts- I will check with the PCP soon.

You know what? Now that I remembered, I did have a spinal injury in the middle of my back from doing sit-ups on a cement like surface when using the workout floor at the Marriott on vacation (learned from that of course). I never Did go to the PCP on it, but did stay off it for a couple weeks until the acute pain went away (could still do non back exercises in my cross fit WOD). I think it was a bone bruise on the vertebrae. To this day, it still bugs me in that location on my spine in the middle of the back. It is not terrible, but is tender and feels sprained, if that means anything. My back has much less of a curvature now then it did back in May ( something I have been working on).

Could under arm nerve issues also be caused by Vitamin toxity, specifically B6 or B12? It is better this morning, but still present. I put some of that topical prescription NSAID cream on it to numb out the burning sensations a bit so I could sleep. It helped and had a restful sleep.< /p>

I would go see ur PCP and have it checked out. I also would see a chiropractor to relieve some of the pressure on the nerve if that's what's causing ur nerve to tingle. :)

I have it in both my legs and all the way up to lower back and belly. Blood tests were all normal, x ray was normal and they did a brain and spinal mri yesterday that im waiting to hear results from...I'm hoping its a pinched nerve other than an autoimmune disorder. Mine is just tingling no burning

Will be interested to hear what you find.

I've had a twinge like feeling in my left upper arm on a few occassions in the last few weeks.

Had never had it pre-surgery.

I've not had back or neck injuries but do work 12 hr shifts on a computer.

Nothing I've felt the need to check with my PCP yet even though I work for them.

But may mention it when I work Friday. They're used to me asking lots of questions :)

I'm guessing they'll tell me I work too much as I often work 50-60 hrs/week.

Yes, I can relate to the working long hours at the computer. :) however, I can say my posture has really improved in the last few months since I have been doing corrective measurements such as mobility exercises, back stabilization exercises during working out, walking with good posture, sitting in my chair with good posture, using PT roller on my back daily, etc. I am happy with the results so far in reducing the curvature of my spine into a more healthy form. It helps tremendously with feeling balanced and at ease during the day not to have tight back or shoulders from too much curvature developed from a career of computer work, hunched over the keyboard.

Yeah, sounds pretty similar to my Thoracic Outlet Syndrome. Essentially pinched nerves in the chest area that lead to pain in my arm(s). I would definitely go see the doc before it gets worse. Could be caused by some shifting in your body since weight loss!

Of course! It's at least a good place to start looking medically based on what you're describing! Could certainly still be a pinched nerve elsewhere, possibly in the cervical spine or lumbar spine where you suffered that old injury. But at least having a diagnosis to look into could lead you to some other similar diagnosis that may fit better! :)

Either way, hopefully they can determine its origin soon and help relieve that pain. Nerve pain can be the absolute worst!! Hope you get some relief soon!!

Ask your doctor for a prescription of Gabapentin. It is specifically for nerve pain. It really helped me.

Did you ever contact your doctor? I'm 4 weeks out tomorrow and in the last couple of days I have had this weird feeling in my left arm. It feels numb but alive. Lol if that makes sense. It's mostly annoying at night when I'm trying to go to bed. It tingles in my hand a little. It's a weird feeling. Not quit the same as something falling asleep, like a foot etc.

Just about ALL of my issues I've had since surgery target my left side, I wonder why that is.

I would say what you're experiencing is just a day to day issue, unrelated to surgery.

Good luck to you, hope you figure it out soon!

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
