Anyone else getting sleeved in August?

Recommended Posts

Starting two week liquid diet this Tuesday. Anyone else getting sleeved the week of the 12th starting liquids?

Me! My surgery is on the 12th. Starting my pre-op diet tomorrow!! I woke up thinking "Tomorrow is the first day of the rest of my life!" It's time to truly make a lifestyle change! I've made a realization that not only will I change the way I eat, and start exercising, but I need to work on loving me for me, regardless of my looks. I am my own worst critic. Although we have some possible struggles ahead of us, I'm so excited to start the journey! I wish everyone the best as we begin our pre-op diets and upcoming surgery!

We're both starting tomorrow. Good luck to you. I just went out and purchased 5 cases of Premier RTD shakes, and it hit me that we're only 2 weeks away from our sleeve date. Yay!!!

Thanks as always for the list! 4 more days...good thing I'm busy at work to keep my mind a little focused :)

I am starting to really get nervous. Tomorrow I start the liquid diet. I am a ball of nerves. The date is almost here!! I'm trying to occupy myself with other things not to focus too much on the "surgery" but it's not working :/

We are sleeve sisters. Lol

Want to ask why are some of you on a liquid diet? My doctor has me on a protien diet until the day of surgery, then only Water or ice. It seems like you would be starving?

My liquid diet starts 3days prior to surgery and its the same diet to follow for 10 days after surgery. Doing it before surgery is supposed to prepare the liver for surgery. Also u get a lil head start to what to expect to be eating after surgery. I also have to take a citrate magnesium for cleansing the day before surgery. I don't know what it will be cleansing since I will be on a liquid diet. Lol.

Having my sleeve on Aug 12 in the Texas Medical Center ~ Houston! I feel blessed to live near such a great team of professionals. Learning about the support groups, etc...it is starting to sink in now. I started the journey in Jan 2013 and just got the surgery date. Start the pre-op diet tomorrow.

According to my Dr. The liquid diet is to help shrink your liver before surgery so it won't be damaged by the procedure since most big people have fatty livers and the Liquid Protein diet helps reduce the size of it, to avoid complications of the liver being injured during surgery. And it also prepares you for after your surgery on what to expect after your sleeved, since you'll be on liquids and Proteins shakes for awhile.

A protien diet such at Atkins will do the same thing.

The high protein / low carb diet should do the same thing as the liquid version (cause the liver to shed the "sugar" it is storing). I think they also try to restrict calories to help lose additional weight before the surgery (including fat around the liver). My guess is the liquid diet is easier to portion. I was put on the liquid diet but asked if I could do high protein / low carb solid foods instead & my doctor said yes (but to keep portions small).

My doctor said not to pay attention to the calories, just stick to protiens and fat and protien shakes. I have already been following Atkins Phase 1, so that is what I am doing. I fill up faster and stay satisfied longer when I eat only protiens.

On the updated list, I'm put down as August 31, but I'm having surgery July 31st. Yikes, only a few days away!

Can I ask what your BMI is? I'm wondering if people with higher BMI (like me -- mine is 46) need to restrict their calories while people with lower do not.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
