Where are the apple shapes?!

Recommended Posts

Not too many guy responses, so I'll put in my two cents. I have been an apple shape most of my life. Even after losing the weight, I was still a smaller apple. However, after a few months of focused strength training, I am getting the triangle athletic shape of broad shoulders, big delts, lats and narrow waist. It is possible to change your fundamental shape with the right type of strength training. It takes a lot of focus, high intensity and consistently showing up to workouts though.

Total apple here! Very frustrating to see other less fat body parts shrinking and my big belly still ever present. I have to keep in mind that no matter what I'm healthier than I was and that I'll never have a small tummy... But I will be able to rock cute clothes and live longer!!!

Sleeved- 2/27/13

Highest weight pre-op- 273.5

Current weight- 205.5

Awesome Sara! You look great.

I'm an apple currently, but I'm more naturally a pear when my weight is lower - I always carried the most weight in my hips and thighs. Here's to hopefully becoming a pear again, if I can't miraculously become perfectly proportioned :)

Sent from my Samsung Galaxy Note 2 using VST

I'm the same.. I lost my pear shape at somewhere around 300... my upper abdomen is still much larger than it was when I was at my current weight previously (15 years ago) but the pear is definitely coming back.

I'm an apple too. Lost in my boobs first and have one less chin now. Surgery May 8th down 32lbs. I used to wear my hair really short, but weight gain made me look like a bowling pin! Will cut my hair when I lose the weight.

Another apple shape here, which is the most unhealthy body type. Puts you at greater risk for cardiovascular disease, strokes, and metabolic disorders. All my fat is in the middle and my boobies. Lol. I was once told by a cousin I looked like a potato with toothpicks for arms and legs. I also have that noassatall disease. So my pants all have to be big to fit my belly and that makes them way to Baggie in the legs and a**. Have such a hard time finding pants. I am 5'2 an weigh right at 200 lbs. I am STILL pre op. some days it seems like that is taking FOREVER.....anyway I am so ready to get this weight off and be healthy again.

When I weighed 248 a few years ago, I wore maternity jeans and shorts. They aren;t like fat lady clothes", they're cute and trendy, bigger around the belly and smaller in the butt and legs. And oh so comfy. Of course my husband didn't even know I wore maternity clothes!

I was a complete apple. I looked pregnant - I am not kidding. I was a tight tight size 16 before surgery. Today I am comfortably in 2s and 4s. I don't have the "apple" shape anymore - and hope I never will! I am SO HAPPY that I had this surgery when I did. I am short (5'3") and my original personal goal was 120 lbs. I have lowered that goal to 115 lbs but wonder if that might be pushing it a bit. I have had a few stalls but have just stayed on track. I love my new shape - my tummy is not flat but I am planning on fixing that soon!

im 5'2" I want to be 115 120

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
