Texasmiss - when did you start putting food in blender? I'm day 7 today and I can handle Protein Shakes Soups like black bean liquified but a little thickness to it. I don't want to over do it!! I'm ready to quick eat purred food and eggs etc. should I wait one more week? I'm worried about leaking of course!! Thanks kristie

Your lucky I still had my first weeks menu on the fridge lol. If you got the same sheet I did from Dr V it didn't tell you much, so I combined all the info i could find online and customized it for things i liked. Google "Peachtree Bariatrics". They had a really great file available for download that has really detailed info for the first 6 weeks or so. Week 2 I was eating cream of wheat, thinned oatmeal, cream Soups (thinned), Soup with soft noodles, natural or no sugar added applesauce, SF carnation instant Breakfast, SF pudding, Fudgesicles (only 40 calories...so amazing), light juices (apple, white grape, etc) and light V8 fusion.

Week 3... I started having SF frozen yogurt, mashed potatoes, can peaches, pear, and mandrin oranges, refried Beans (was amazing at that stage!), eggs, hummus, lean/moist fish, tuna, chicken and turkey, low fat cheese (6g of fat or less per serving...includes most 2%), and softy cooked veggies like green Beans, zucchini, and squash.

Week 4, everything from previous weeks plus introduce new foods one at a time. avoid tough meats, starchy foods (white rice, Pasta, breads etc). I know everyone has their input on what they think is right...I'm not a dr but this is what worked well for me. I also added citrus fruits about week 6 or 7. Citrus fruits can be stringy...peelings don't digest well at first, and all that acid can kick up the acid relux. I eat by the rule of 3 now lol...3 oz about every 3 hrs. Breakfast, lunch, dinner I focus on Protein, mid morning/afternoon/evening snack a fruit or vegetable.

Hope this helps you :)

Texasmiss ... Helped so much!! Today is day 9 and I think it is going great I'm just worried about causing a leak:-(. I tried oatmeal yesterday couldn't eat even half but it seemed to go ok. I will lookup peach tree and print it out. That is also the one I found but I am amazed how many doctors think differently!! I am 24 pounds down and feel great not eating sugar!!! I need to take a picture now so I can have before and after! You said you follow the 3 diet ... Well I can take in 4 oz at a time of semi thick liquid and I'm not hungry again til 4 hours later I hope I'm not doing it wrong?

No, I'm sure your fine. When you start eating solid Proteins, it's a whole new game. I can barely eat two turkey meatballs even now. I get like 1 1/2 down and I'm way full...but then I can eat a nice plate of salad because it chews up to nothing...or watermelon I can probably eat two cups and not feel like I havent ate anything. You will start to learn that different foods feel different. I average about 3 oz but sometimes its more or less. Your right in that EVERY dr is different, so I read and do what i think is best for me. I eat carbs sometimes...gasp! Big no no with some docs..not for others. I don't do it everyday, but when I do I make it count. For example I make sure its whole grain like a couple bites of wild/brown rice or rice cakes (love the Carmel and cheddar). I look at this as its not a diet. Dieting never worked before and it won't work now. I'm focusing on making good, healthy choices when I eat. I use My Fitness Pal also and keep track of everything that passes my lips. And the leak thing is normal...everyone is paranoid about having a leak. I'm four months out ans still paranoid about it lol :)

You hit it right on the nail how I feel. I am trying to get Proteins first but I barely get 500 calories so I will shoot for that in a couple of months. Have you eaten sugar yet? I don't even want it anymore. I am down 25 pounds and already feel better but ready to start lifting weights. When did you start? I'm only walking right now.

how far out are you? I don't think I tried salad for about 12 weeks?.. raw veggies can be harder on the tummy. Tomato peelings and seeds are a no no early on. I started with shredded lettuce, Seedless English cucumber and cheese with bolthouse yogurt ranch dressing.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
