Hello Ohio, let's get this started

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone. I am new here and havent been banded yet but I hope to be in the next few months. I am from West Milton and am seeing Dr Clarey's partner Dr Bruce. I havent seen anyone post that has had surgery by him...

Is everyone still meeting once a month for a support group? I attended one in Dayton but wont always be able to get to that one because I travel a lot for work but would love to join you guys sometime if you dont mind.

My insurance covers 90% of the banding as long as I have pre authorization. So I have had my psych eval, clearance by my primary care, gathered my medical records, attended a support group and wrote a letter to go to my insurance co and also had my appt with Dr Bruce. The only thing left to do is see the nutritionist which I do on the 26th of this month and then all the above will get sent to my insurance company. Its so hard to wait....I hope that I can be banded at least within the next 2 months.

I stopped drinking diet soda and am trying to get used to drinking 64 ounces of Water each day..whewwww. Also trying to quit smoking. To be honest I am waiting for that approval then I am slapping a nicotine patch on. Cant go cold turkey.

Anyways I have rambled enough. Its very encouraging to read this thread and to hear how everyone is doing. Any advice that anyone has I would greatly appreciate it. Take care...keep up the good work everyone!

Susan

Hi Ohio people.

Seems like not many of us are from OSU Bariatrics. Just thought I'd shout out.

Hi Susan! We are neighbors....I grew up in Tipp City and now live in Vandalia. I work at GSH and take care of Dr Clarey and Dr Bruce's patients as well as Dr Sidiqqui's patients. We have an awesome new bariatric portion. The rooms and bathrooms are to die for. Keep hoping that I will be able to be in one of those rooms to be banded instead of always taking care of those who are being banded. Welcome! Please feel free to send me a private message. I have lots of information if you are ever in need of any!

Dear Cheeze,

You'll do just fine! I was in your shoes 3 months ago. I have since lost 33 pounds and I feel great. I'm from Toledo but had my surgery in Ypsilanti, Michigan. If you have any questions please feel free to talk to me. I know the unknown is always scary but you will succeed!!! Good Luck.

Ohhhhh guess what?????????? I got a phone call today from Jean at Dr Bruce/Clarey's office. I am approved!!!!!!!!!! Surgery is set up for May 4th. The only problem is that I got my letter of authorization tonight in the mail and it says that I have selected a hospital that is out of network and that they may pay some....and they may not. So I guess I have to call them tomorrow and see what is up. I got the name of Bruce and Clarey from my insurance co...not sure why they are saying they wont cover the facilities. Any idea??? Oh but I am just so thrilled that I am approved. I guess if I have to change physicians and hospitals at least it wont take me forever to get through the process huh? Ohhhhhhh I cant wait!!!!!!!!!!

Hi everyone, it's been awhile since I posted, I read often but just haven't posted. Things are going good for me, the weight loss has slowed but it is still ongoing. I have to say that I have no regrets about having the surgery. I feel like I am starting to live when all I was doing before was just watching the world live. I want to tell all the ones that haven't been banded yet to hang in there and you'll be glad you did. When I first had the band it was very consuming in all my thoughts but now it's just a way of life and I honestly don't think about it constantly like I did when I would diet pre-band. Talk to you later.

Hi Ohio, It has also been a while since I last posted as well. I got a call yesterday from Dr. Curry's office that Atena approved me for surgery. Yippee!!!! My surgery is scheduled for May 25th at 10:30AM. I go down and do some pre admission stuff on the 15th and start my 2 week dr required liquid diet on the 11th. It will be here before I know it.

How soon after you all had surgery were you able to drive more then 30 minutes one way?

You should be able to ride 30 minutes away, easily. But with pain medication I doubt driving is an option.

Congratulations too!

Ok I am on day 3 of this liquid diet and to tell you the truth at this moment I could eat the butt end of a bear. I am afraid to go to town because I pass right by McDonalds and cant promise I would not stop. I am trying to keep my eye on the prize but at the moment is hard. Think I will take the dog for a walk although at this moment I am not sure she is safe either LOL. Thanks for letting me vent!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
