Hello Ohio, let's get this started

Well, it's 1 day after I should have had my surgery. Unforuately United Health Care is not making my life any easier. I am so frustrated after having talked to them 9 times so far. They keep asking me who said I didn't need the preapproval - I told them when the doctors office called they were told that. I was just repeating what I was told - I didn't schedule myself for the surgery. So I can't stay off work - waiting for the approval, so I will just go back to work and hope I hear something soon. I have already wasted 2 and 1/2 days of sick leave. I am certainly not a happy camper. Wish me luck. RosieG

Oh RosieG doesn't it feel like something is alsways trying to push us back.:angry But just hang in there and it's going to happen. It can be so frustrating working with insurance, the have no idea what is going on it seems like at times. How's everyone dealing with the snow? We got 15 inches here and work was cancelled yesterday but other than that it's not been to bad.

Hey Guys:

I, and I'm sure I'm in the minority, LOVE the snow! I have a 4-wheel drive so it's been easy to get around here in Columbus anyway. We didn't get 15 inches like Dayton did though.

Linadu: Enjoy your day off????? :notagree I'm so happy for you that you made your goal - you go! (what exactly does that #2 mean, shouldn't it be #1). Anyway, thanks for the info regarding the restriction and fills. So weird, I guess I ultimately did experience the norm. You feel that restriction big time for the healing phase and then boom, right back to normal eating. Thanks goodness I haven't gained anything back. I'm just sitting still. I know the band is keeping me from overeating by far but hopefully my next fill coming up in a couple weeks will get me on the way.

RosieG: I feel so bad for you....:cry :cry I just want to encourage you to not to let yourself get too down. It WILL happen.

I need some help, everyone. We're meeting for lunch on March 5th at 12noon. WHERE? What are the restaurants down there by Dr. Shu's office. I know Baby Boomer is really busy with Heart Month so let's go ahead and pick the place so everyone can make plans. Any ideas?

Have a good night

I know of O'Charley's on 741 just north of the Dayton Mall and Ruby Tuesday's inside the Dayton Mall. There are plenty of fast food joints all around the Mall area. These are just suggestions right off hand. Hope this helps.

Hello Ohio,

I don't know of many reasturants around Dr. Shus office but I know there has to be quite of few with it being around the mall.

I'm having trouble getting myself motivated to exercise, I know that I just need to get up and do it but I don't. What are some ways that you get yourself to exercise and what kind of exercise do you like to do. My ultimate goal is to be able to windsurf, don't ask me why but it just looks fun to me, I have never tried it so I might hate it but I am going to do it hopefully this summer. At the rate I'm going I won't have enough energy to pull myself up so I know that I have to get my but into gear. At this time my eating is under controll so now if I could just get the exercise happening then I would be well on my way. I hope to hear from lots of you and get some different ideas. At this point I'm up to anything.:help:

:DHi everyone, My daughter and I just got home from the hospital !!! I am doing pretty well, my daughter is hurting more than I am. She has never had any surgery in her life, so her pain is harder on her.

Everyone at the hospital was wonderful ! Such a nice staff. I am just starting to feel the gas rumbling in my tummy, and she has none of this yet. I just hope I can walk it all out. LOL

Mindful, as for lunch on March 5th, I think I can make it, just not sure about my daughter. She may have to work that day. Well I will chat more later, I need to make some Jello, yum yum. Talk to you later.

Debbie

Hi Everone,

I'm glad your doing good Debbie, and hopefully your daughter will get to feeling better also. Believe it or not I didn't have my first bad gas attack for about 2 wks. out:omg: , I was already back to work and had been moving around pretty good, I thought that my band had slipped or something and I called the Dr's office and the nurse told me she thought it was gas and to try gas-x and it worked pretty good for me.

Well it sounds like O'Charleys it is:hungry: , I have eaten there once and it was pretty good. Come on everone and join us if you can, the more the merrier.

We are doing pretty well, just wondering what to eat next. Any ideals will be helpful.

Debbie: You didn't dream that. He told me full liquids - anything you can think of. I was on soft foods within a week after that. Take Care!

Hello everyone, I hope all is well.

Debbie I'm glad you and your daughter are doing good.

Welcome jabell76, you have come to a good place. What part of Ohio are you from? I don't know anything about medical mutual or kings daughter in kentucky. I can tell you that I went to my seminar on July 20th and I had my surgery on Oct. 18th. I'm really happy that I had the band I haven't had any problems with it, but I still struggle with old habits of eating the wrong things, not as big of quanities as before but still the wrong things.

I think I'm self sabataging myself. I am close to being in onederland and then I go and blow it by munching all the time and I'm not even hungry. I don't mean to be having a self pity party but I can't get myself out of this funk. I seem to do this at least once a month, usually it last a couple of day's but this time it's lasted almost a week and I gotta snap outa it. I know what I should be eating and I had been doing so good. One good things is I have only gained one pound so far but my old fears are lurking in the back of my mind, here it goes again, lose the weight and then gain it back again. Sorry to everone for being a downer I just need to get this off my chest and then maybe I can get it out of the way and start fresh again.

I promise the next time I get on here I'll be over my woa is me act.

Just wanted to encourage you Linadu. Don't claim to have the answer but know I'm right there with you rooting you on.

Bad news....have to beg out of the lunch on 3/5. Just got a job and have to work on Mondays. I re-scheduled Dr. S on 3/15 at 11:45a. I could do lunch then. But, I think you should all still go and just tell me all about it later.

I'm doing fine but REALLY tired today - had company all weekend so ready for a nap.

See ya, Paige

Hope everyone is doing well. I do have a question for anyone that can answer it. We are still on full liquids and we are just eating our Protein Shakes and Soup and juices, Water, sf popicles How much do you eat at a time and how often? I am getting hungry and I don't want to over eat. We both don't feel like we have any restriction. Well, some but not much. Liquids go down fast and smooth. When I eat soup I only eat around a half a cup and Im ok, but I feel like I could eat some more. Just let me know. Thanks

Debbie

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
