Best tips for recovery?

Recommended Posts

Guest

I had a fairly bad time during my hospital stay & am so thrilled I got to come home today. Any tips to make the recovery time at home pleasant?

Up & moving around? (Cleaning-cooking ?). Or resting? I have also found I'm experiencing a lot of hunger pains- I guess that's normal? I'm doing Protein shakes and Water for now.

Any help is much much appreciated.

I had surgery Monday and came home Tuesday. Slept most of Tuesday. Yesterday was better. Awake more and up and moving. Today has been the best so far! Just started with Protein shake! I've been up and walking every 30 mins or so!

For me it has been as follows:

1. Protein, Water, popsicle

2. Walk, walk, walk

3. Water

4. This website and water

5. Nap

Repeat, repeat, repeat....

I'm in this continuous loop and try to stay positive. I'm quite certain this has been the toughest thing I've ever done but I'm hopeful it's going to get better. Good luck to you - you are stronger than you know!

On a side note, so excited that I get to move to full liquids tomorrow. I'm dreaming of plan Greek yogurt, blended Soups, thin oatmeal and applesauce. You will be there soon. :)

I took a 45 minute nap every afternoon for a month, which was nice. I walked a little more every day and I used a heating pad when I was sitting during the day. I used liquid Tylenol during the day and used the pain meds only at night for 9 or 1o days. Drink liquid.....find something you like, Water with lemon, crystal lite, whatever and drink. Take it easy, don't expect to lose massive amounts of weight - slow and steady is good. Take this time to develop good habits and make them your new life, your new normal. This is fun, enjoy it. I bought a disposable camera and my husband took a picture of me the day before surgery and then took a picture every month on my 'date' of surgery.....for the first year. After the one year anniversary, I took the camera and had the pictures developed. Wow, to lay them out, side by side and see the transformation. I am glad someone suggested it and glad I followed through. Like I said, have fun. Good luck!!

My best advice is to do what your body tells you to do...If you need to sleep, sleep, if your up to it, walk...I slept a lot the first week...Just worry about getting liquids in and resting for the first week or 2..

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
