Hey I'm from Baltimore. I'll be getting sleeved February 4th at GBMC

Hey just a quick question...do you happen to have Kaiser?

They offered St. Agnes or GBMC...I loved GBMC when giving birth but I chose St. Agnes cuz it's closer but I'd love to hear of your experience at GBMC!!

This is my first post! I'm a Kaiser patient who is just starting the journey. I live in Harford County but work in Baltimore City.

Well let me tell you this...I have my 6 out of 6 appointment coming and I want to tell anyone with Kaiser what to look out for...it's what I wanted to know...

1. you can possibly get more monthly visits added on but cannot do anything to reduce the time in the program.

2. you should start a diet to follow immediately and let that be what you track in your food journal...unlike me, who thought they wanted to just see what we were currently eating.. I was unaware that the diet begins at that first class you attend.

3. If it applies, don't stop smoking too soon...I gained about 6lbs immediately and never found out that losing any weight gained is you final goal in the program.

4. DO NOT GAIN WEIGHT!!! I never knew there would be any weight requirement, only the classes and appointments but at my 5th appointment, I found that I must get back to my lowest weight in the program before we can move on to submitting paperwork. Which only gives me 4 weeks but if you gained more than my 6, this could be a shocker!

6. Make sure you schedule all your appointments immediately after your visits because those appointments go fast and some time they may not even have a schedule up for the following month until the 2nd week of the current month.

My 6/6 appointment is 1/31/14 and we will be submitting paperwork...feel free to hit me up and ask me any questions about the process...

Good Luck neighbors!!

Hi everyone! I'm still in my research phase, but I'm going to be attending a meeting on 1/2/14 at Shady Grove Adventist Hosp. I live in Bowie.

Hi there! I'm just down the road from you in Upper Marlboro. I had my surgery in May at Washington Hospital a Center with Dr. Timothy Shope & his group.

They are/were excellent. The process was smooth albeit long (6 months with my insurance). I highly recommend WHC.

Good luck to you!

Thanks Kelly. How was your surgery ? I may look into whc. I am going to a seminar tonight at AAMC and right now I'm somewhat leaning towards them due to their location but I haven't committed to any surgeon yet lol.

Hi Ladies,

I stated previously that I am with Kaiser and their process is a 6 month process. So, I've been thinking of ways to pass the time and focus on other aspects of my life that don't evolve around food. With that being said, I'm hosting a an adult toy party at my place in Harford County and I would love to have you all there. Maybe we can also plan some future get-togethers to keep each other encouraged and motivated? If you're interested in either one of those things, please send me a private message and we can vet the ball rolling.

Thanks!

NurseKim, I had my two boys at AAMC - it is also a great hospital. I don't think you can go wrong there and with the follow ups and appointments closer to home is always better. I'm doing well. I'm on the slow losing side - 50lbs in 9 months. My starting weight was 245 and I was in a very tight 16. I'm now between 12 & 14's depending on where the cloths are from.

How did the seminar go?

AAMC has a beautiful maternity floor so I'm sure you must have loved it there lol. The seminar went really well & I think I want to go with their program, especially since their coordinator stated that 99% of the cases they submit to insurance get approved..that's really encouraging!

50 lbs is great! I'm around that same weight too (240s) so it's nice to see someone with similar stats finding success. Do you have any loose skin?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣
