I have my fill scheduled with fillcenterusa here in GA. It will cost me $500. for first fill w/fluoro + 8 hour round trip drive. But I figure it beats going back to TJ. After that fills w/fluoro cost $355.

The fill centers around me do not have flouro, is that good or bad? I'm in Connecticut and my surgeon is going to charge $400 for a fill, that's why I'm glad I found fillcenterusa. Any advice is appreciated.

I have heard an equal number of people whose fill doctors use fluoro as opposed to those who don't. I think most have fluoro available whether they use it or not.

The fills sound very expensive. I live in the midwest, maybe that accounts for the difference. Around here they are $100 - $250. I live in Kansas City, MO.

My first fill with Flouro cost $299 from the St. Petersburg, Florida office of Fillcenterusa. I have read that others have paid from $15 without flouro. What cost for fill services have you guys paid? What was the experience like?

I was banded on 3/31/06 here in Louisville, KY. I had my 3rd fill on 12/7/06. I just saw that the doctor charged my insurance $1075.00. This is the first charge since my surgery in March. I never imagined that a fill would cost that much. I have to pay 50%, so I am worried. Is this the going rate?

RLJ,

You'll find that there is a huge difference in cost depending where you go. I have heard of fills costing as little as $50, and as much as a couple grand.

I do know that Doctors will charge insurance one thing, but what the insurance company actually pays is another. You should find out if what they are charging and what they receive are the same.

You always have the option of finding another place that is more competitively priced if you are going to be charged that much each time you have to go for an adjustment.

Ask you doctor to write off the amount you would pay after he gets paid by the insurance company. If he will not go to fillcenterusa.com and pay 100% out of your pocket and still save money

Has anyone gotten a fill at the Fill Centers USA location in Moultrie, GA? I just have a fear that they are going to give me a small fill so I have to keep coming back paying again and again. I hear this is how doctors in the U.S. typically do things. Please share your experience. I desperately need a fill and am considering this location. It sounds like flouro is a lot more expensive ....

Did you go to your appt at the fill center in GA? If so, how was it and how much did it cost? I would like to have mine done under fluoro, but it sounds really expensive. And I'm concerned about whether or not they will give me enough. I don't want to keep investing hundreds of dollars and not getting any results. I'm still considering going back to Dr. Ortiz for another fill.

I went to the fill center today in moultrie,ga. This was my second fill after having my lap band surgery done in may06 in mexico. I went back to mexico for my first fill. I recieved 1.2cc the first fill and I have lost 49lbs. My fill today was 1.3cc, this bumped me up to 2.5cc in my band now. The nurse in moultrie

was very nice and seemed to really be educated on how to do the fills. There was no pain and i was very pleased. I can have another fill in 6 weeks. Price is $299.00 for the first fill and then $155.00 for each fill thereafter. Hope this helps someone. thanks hot nana

Hey Hot Nana!

Thanks so very much for this info. I was really nervous about going. It just seems like doctors in the U.S. are so much more conservative than doctors in other countries. Our medical system in the U.S. is a huge cesspool that is designed to keep you coming back paying over and over again. I don't know that anyone really gets cured of anything. They just keep prescribing more and more meds, then you have to take others to counteract new side effects. Enough of my soap box on that topic .... I say all that to say I was really concerned that they would give me a small fill so I would have to come back and pay again. This would be a complete waste of my time and money. Please post soon and let me know if you have restriction. You were banded a month after me. I too returned to Dr. Ortiz for my first fill. I have skymiles I can use and was considering going back to him for another fill. When I pay transportation/fill costs for Dr. Ortiz it will be about the same cost as a first fill in Moultrie. So I have been debating this issue for a couple of weeks now. Moultrie would be much less time consuming. Since I work a lot of cases in south Georgia, if I can coordinate my work schedule where I can get a fill at the same time, that would be great. Please, let me know how you are doing soon and thanks for replying - it has been quite helpful. Did you have any reservations about not having it under fluoro???

Lynn

$1075 is definitely a lot for a fill.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
