Getting a massage a few days post-op?

Recommended Posts

Doable or no? I'm going to MX for band to sleeve revision. Since we have to stay several days post-op, I'm wanting to treat it a bit like a vacation...if possible! LOL I usually heal pretty quickly from surgeries...and gosh, I've had a few! 2 C-sections, gall bladder, LapBand, TT/BA, ablation, appendectomy.

So I'm wondering how it might feel to be on my stomach for a massage. Right now, there's no way...the band is causing so many problems that I'd be throwing up if I stretched out on my stomach. But the band will be GONE...so I'm wondering about soreness, swelling, etc from the surgery itself.

What do you think?

I would say that it might be tough, depending on how much incisional pain and post-op gas you have. I didn't really sleep on my side or stomach comfortably for about 2 weeks. Can you get a massage before your surgery? I also would want to be careful about your actual incisions and making sure you don't expose them to possible germy areas, etc. I've gotten and enjoyed massages in MX while on vacation, but I'm not sure they are subject to the same types of sanitation standards there as spas and salons are here (this is in no way implying anything about the hospitals, of course).

Agree with TES. A massage does sound quite appealing though. I have a gift card for The Massage co. in Dallas that I got pre op. A gift. I saved it until after surgery but the first few weeks post op it was just not doable. I was swollen and the incisions would have been very uncomfortable had I tired to lay on my stomach. You may want to put it off for a couple weeks until you heal up a little. I think I will use my gift card now since you've put the idea out there:)

I couldn't lay on my stomach until just recently (I'm 2 months out) and even now there is still a bit of discomfort if I stay there too long. I healed pretty quick and was back at work the same week but laying that way is just uncomfortable for me. So I don't know if I would have done something like that so soon after. Maybe find some other vacation like thing to do and save the massage for a few weeks.

I scheduled today. Had a late massage last night. Was afraid it would be a while not to mention I needed to calm my anxiety.

Wonder if they offer chair massages? Atleast you could have your shoulders/upper back worked on? Or how about a nice facial instead? ;)

Bummer! Ok, I'd already thought about the facial, too, but unless they have a massage chair, I'll nix the full body massage.

I would not because of the threat of blood clots.. I was afraid if I had any blood clots developing that massaging them could release them into my bloodstream. I was definitely hyperparanoid about bloodclots for some reason!

My word... Last night someone wants to get a tattoo in Mexico on their STOMACH right after surgery.. People getting Botox, dental work,

What am I missing?? I mean is the surgery in Mexico different than the surgery in the USA?

Or is the thought that "hey I'm on vacation"

So strong that you overcome the pain?

I'm with you Laura! I hope you have an easy recovery, but I really don't see laying on your belly would feel good right after major surgery. Just focus on healing..... They have massages in the U.S....Best of luck to you ..

I flew in several days early and did my vaca preop, even with a preop diet! :-P

While I felt pretty awesome considering I'd just had surgery, walking was all the excitement I was up for.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
