Recommended Posts

Day 3 full fluids. I'm so hungry I'm angry. I'm hangry! 3 Protien shakes per day plus liquid Soups, Water, juice, etc. am I not drinking enough?? I gulp water to get rid of my grumbling tummy and hanger pains but it only lasts a few minutes. Please help me... tell me this is easier after the surgery....next week is Clear Liquids only...I'm probably gonna get dumped by my partner cause I've been so miserable.....I just wanna cry...and eat a bowl of Cereal.< /p>

I start the liquid diet next week. They did say that I could have creamed Soups, yogurt and sugar free pudding. Is that on your pre-surgery diet? Might help with satisfaction.

I'm on day 6 of 14 ,,,,, the hunger pains go away after about day 4. Along with "most " of the mental hunger pains. Lol. I'm actually trying to take it one day at a time. I get kinda overwhelmed if I think about having 8 days to go. Lol. Then 4 weeks after surgery. Geeeze I'm hungery !!!!! Lol

Maybe an appetite suppressant would get you through since its short term - Byetta (injection, rx), pseudofed (12 hr extended release, OTC), or even Phentermine if your dr. will prescribe it. Mine did but it messed up my sleep so I didn't use it much. Obviously this isn't ideal, but it's short term, medically supervised, and better for your liver (I'm told). I realize that many people see the pre op diet as a time to practice post op eating habits, but that mentality didn't work for me because the hunger was so constant and overwhelming (even with 2 of the 3 aforementioned appetite suppressants!) Honestly, if i never lose another pound for the rest of my life, just having that very real, desperate, and constant hungry feeling gone has made surgery worth it.

I'm Struggeling with this bad too and it seems everyone can have different things. I can have 3 Optifast meals, cup of veggies (low energy low starch ones), black coffee, water, diet cordial and diet jelly. I'm on day 8, my stomach still going nuts, I've managed ok til now fighting cravings, even sat in bakery with my black coffee. But today I have NO energy, like when you have the flu, I'm angry, hungry and Struggeling. I've got 17 days of this left agh

Plus if I wasn't hungry like after surgery and could have juice, yogurt etc to mix it up I think I would be managing heaps better

i'm not having the hunger pains (i don't think) but i'm having severe nausea...my stomach has growled at times and then i have a shake and it tames it down (or ticks it off lol)...my pre op is 3-5 shakes a day and water...normally i would eat a cracker to help with the nausea but that's a no go for this. just trying to muster through it...5 days left!

You guys are doing great, and it's good to hear from someone on day 6...at least I know what to look forward to. I'm starting Day 3. Days 1 and 2 were much easier than I expected, almost too easy to be true. I'm on 5-6 carnation instant breakfasts, up to 1 cup of sugar free Jello, and up to two sugar free popsicles. Day 3 is beginning with some hunger pains but I'm just going to load up on Water and hope it helps. If I can get through a few more days I'll be on the downhill slide to surgery day and will be able to encourage myself by not wanting to screw it up this far into the game. The scale has also been encouraging. I'm down 20lbs so far between the NUT diet and the liquids. I'd say I've probably lost 7+ lbs in two days just due to liquid diet, so the scale is becoming my friend!

Day 7 here and I sort of lost it yesterday. I will say that my NUT is thrilled with my weight loss so far, so she really doesn't care (kind of giving me license to cheat GRRRRR....). I am proud to say that I "gorged" on lean Protein, Beans, veggies and FF dip made with greek yogurt. Stayed under 1200 calories but was finally full. I am back on track today!

I am in the pre-op stage and just got verbal approval. We are waiting on the written approval letter and then they will schedule my surgery date and pre-op appt. When/where do you get your pre-op diet? Do you meet with the Nut again at the pre-op apt and get it then? A little confused here.....

I was I'm your exact shoes. All post op diets are different. I added full liquids a few days early but took it slow. Blended cream Soups. A couple of tbls at a time.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
