A nice read as I sit here with my morning coffee and my yummy Protein shake being sipped leisurely with my straw. Really. :)

I wonder if your sleeve stretches from everyday swallowing. Or metabolic processes where the byproduct is gas. .....must sit still and hold my breath for minimal stretchage!

That must mean no beans! Because oh boy, after the metabolic process occurs with those.....just sayin... :P

My Doc told me no straws, I don't use straws. My Doc told me no gum, I don't chew gum. I try and follow to a T what my surgeon told me. Everyone here has free will and can do what they think is best for them.

I read the post about the lady gaining 50 pounds to my husband. He said, "what, was she drinking gravy through a straw?" Bahaha!

Why no gum? I haven't heard that one.

SIDE NOTE:I use a straw -take a large sip, hold in mouth, swallow three small sips. I told my surgeon one week out and she said it was completely fine.

A lot of people tend to unintentionally swallow air when chewing gum. I wonder if that's the reason?

Ok, this is really OFF topic, but related. It's a new issue this days of women who regularly use a straw or water bottle (but especially a straw) that they are now getting smoker lips. You know, the vertical lines above the lips. I'm not quite sure how to avoid this when I have to forever drink my liquids.< /p>

wow!!!! good to know! that's crazy...but now that you point it out, it makes a lot of sense.

Hi Joe, I am brand new to this and am waiting for insurance to approve my sleeve surgery.....my doctor has not yet mentioned "no gum" and I am a gum addict! What is the reasoning behind that?

I can only say from experience that drinking from a straw has made me sick and I will continue to follow my doctors advice. Kudos to you all that choose to do otherwise. I'm jealous that you can do so without the ramifications but it's not necessary to make fun of those who do suffer from it. Shame on you! Best of luck and I wish you continued success in this journey!

I think anything you want to do post-op - use a straw, gulp Water, chew gum - it's all trial and error. You simply won't know how your body will react to something until you do it/try it/eat it/drink it - whatever. As long as your healed - like a month out or more - try what you want. If you feel okay, cool. If you don't, then don't repeat it anytime soon.

Doctors give their advice, but that doesn't mean you HAVE to take it. If something works for you, do it. You're not gonna explode. Your sleeve will be fine. Life will go on... ;)

I'm actually 5 weeks out and have thought about trying a straw. I always drank from a straw Pre-surgery. I think I swallow more air drinking without a straw. I'm going to try one. My body will let me know if it is a problem.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
