Hi friends, I am having a terrible time with the liquid diet! I am on SF Jello, crystal light, Protein Shakes, and broth. But, I have been cheating with low fat turkey and cheese in the evening because I feel like I can't function.... It seems strange to be worried about a little turkey considering how my eating habits were I have lost 15 lbs and feel great how worried should I be?

If you are on post-op full liquids, I definitely would NOT cheat with solid foods. Even a little thinned out Greek yogurt would be better than lunchmeat and cheese. You can risk messing up your staple line, and that would not be fun....

omg I definitely would stick to the liquids then. You want the surgery to go well and it's so soon. Do you have to do a bowel prep tomorrow? The liquids are partly meant to compress your bowel to make the surgery a little easier. Can't do that with solids in the digestive system. You should probably check with your surgeon's office to see if they are still okay with doing the surgery.

I talked to the Nurse Practitioner and she didn't seem too concerned! And I see so many different versions of the pre op diet and stories of postponed surgeries I'm freaking myself out

I would go by what your surgeon's office says then--sounds like you will be okay. to be safe, I really wouldn't eat any solids the day before your surgery, but that's just me.

Good luck with your surgery! I'm sure everything will go great.

No I'm still pre op my surgery is monday

My surgeon has me on "lean & green" (low carb/high protein) until tomorrow and then tomorrow I start Clear Liquids and do the bowel prep for surgery on Monday. As long as you don't cheat tomorrow I think you'll be fine.

I can do that I have been perfect today and will do the same tomorrow! Thanks for your advice and encouragement. I didn't ever think I would be open to a support group environment but, I LOVE this group

My Dr would not let me go on a liquid diet before surgery. He recommended a low-fat or no-fat diet only. No bowel prep was needed either. 2 nights before surgery, I had my last Outback Steakhouse Prime Rib dinner. The next morning I took a gentle laxative.

I'm Day 4 Post Surgery. I mixed a little Cream of chicken with Herbs Soup with a little cream of mushroom with garlic Soup and mixed in my double-milk. Heated it up and poured it into a mug to sip. Mmmm! It tricked my brain into thinking I had a meal that I had chewed up!

Double milk is 1 cup skim milk mixed with 1/3 cup of powdered low-fat milk. It tastes rich and doubles the Protein content. Mix up a pitcher and use it in your puddings and Protein Drink mixes, too.

Each doc's nutritional requirements are different pre and post op it seems. I was on a low carb diet for two weeks before the surgery and was just required to have a light dinner before 6pm with no liquids after midnight.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
