How will I drink protien shakes

Recommended Posts

I am trying a few different kinds so I will be prepared. Surgery May 22nd. It is horrible and really making me afraid I won't be able to get them down.

try them really cold and don't use the premade ones! I HATE those! I do 1/2 banana, scoop of peanut butter(natural) and 1 scoop of chocolate Protein powder from Wal Mart. Need lots of ice and Water and blend...yum!

Or my new favorite is ice, Water, frozen pineapple or fresh and mango with vanilla Protein Powder, tastes like a smoothie.....YUMMY

vanilla with some frozen or fresh strawberries and 1/2 banana is good as well.

I have to have them ice cold or they are gross.

Keep experimenting there are a ton of recipes out there, you will find something you like.

Good Luck!!!

My Nutritionist said the premade ones tend to have more volume for less of a Protein punch, not a good thing when your stomach can only hold a little at a time. You can also make regular fruit smoothies and add unflavored Protein Powder. I do one with 1 c lowfat milk, 1/4 c orange juice, and then add frozen fruit as desired (and sweetener, if you need it) to make it into a milkshake (or frappe, for those of you from New England). I add 2 scoops of Sytrax unflavored protein powder to that - 10 g per scoop, plus the protein in the milk.

Or did you try making the Protein balls?

Protein hot chocolate?

Sometimes you just have to do the thing you don't want to do.

Sometimes a girl just has to do what a girl has to do! :P

And on that note I do the premier pre made from costco they are pretty good in my book!

It's a part of the healing and nutrition phase of this surgery and in the grand scheme if things not a big deal :)

Try mixing a piece of frozen fruit, almond milk, and my favorite - a sippie cup. This cuts down the Protein smell and they have a valve that keeps air out. Good luck!!!

I find the powder Protein mixes too chalky, taste funny and smell stronger (but some posters suggestions for smoothies do sound good, but time consuming) and use the Costco/Sam's Club Premier Protein which is fast, portable and easy to get down (I haven't been a milk drinker in over 50 years, but do well with these shakes), but drink them as cold as possible to make them more palatable (I put mine in a frozen "can cooler" to keep it cold while I am drinking it).

I am just 3 weeks post-op and detest the vast majority of Protein shakes I've tried. I ordered a lot of samples (powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury, Chike, and Syntrax Nectar) and haven't run out yet. The variety also keeps me from being bored with what I'm trying. I've only dumped one shake down the drain after deeming it unconsumable.

Some of the best ways I've found to try them come from blogs. I adore www.bariatricfoodie.blogspot.com and theworldaccordingtoeggface.com. (Not sure why one linked and one didn't but I digress)

I've discovered mixing with greek yogurt, sugar free drink syrups, frozen fruit, etc makes some really tolerable. The unflavored Unjury is a good one for me. It still has the whey smell to it but it's really palatable in a shake with frozen fruit and a fruit flavored greek yogurt.

Also, my surgeon is less concerned about Protein intake the first week or so than just keeping hydrated so I didn't worry about it too much initially. Once I moved to pureed foods and now soft foods, it's easier to not have to drink the Protein Shakes. So, take heart, as you progress in dietary restrictions, you can eat high protein foods rather than drinking shakes (fat free cottage cheese has become a staple in my diet). :D

Thanks everyone! I know I have to do it and I will just asking for some help. I have been playing around and found a few things that aren't half bad. Waiting for my sample packs to try new things! Thanks again!

Me too. The Syntrax Nectars are the only Protein drinks I can do. Even looking at the bottles of the others makes my stomach roll. The Syntrax is actually good!

I really like vanilla Muscle Milk! I can drink it room temp or cold. Cold is better but I can drink it either way.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
