i'm really looking forward to trying the nectar, they have some yummy sounding flavors![/quote']

How much crystal light are you adding into the Protein shakes?

Try finding a site that will sell you a sampler pack. (BJs Bariatrcs lets you select the flavors you want). I went through a lot of nectar post-op, it was a relieving change from the chocolate / vanilla routine. Did a lot of cherry, and lemon iced tea. I did NOT like the chocolate though, and wasn't terribly fond of the Cappuccino either. Also, that one does have caffeine in it, so it might by too acidic for the early days while your tummy's still healing. I know I wasn't allowed to have coffee for several weeks.

I also strongly recommend the powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury chicken broth flavor, just for something not-sweet!

Thank you so much for the recommendation - just ordered my sample pack!

I have the single serve "on the go" variety pack that I picked up at costco. I use one of those, a scoop of strawberry 2 cups of Water and drink it on ice. I'm preop so my serving size will change after surgery, obviously. I definitely recommend using ice, it's not as tasty if it gets to room temp. :)

Just a quick reminder that what you like pre-op and what you like post-op may be COMPLETELY DIFFERENT, so it's a good idea not to stock up. And if you find something doesn't agree with you post-op, give it time. I went through phases - lots of nectar in the early months, moved to morning Protein hot cocoa in the later months, now I occasionally use other flavors to blend with greek yogurt, or with ice to make into a smoothie, or with tofu to make into a pudding. I haven't touched the nectar in a LONG time.

Another site to try is Vitalady - she creates sample packets from all sorts of different brands. And be aware that some shops like GNC will let you return a product you don't like, so that can be a good place to shop post-op.

I'm scheduled for June 1st. I have no idea what nectar is? My scheduled hes never mentioned this. Getting pretty nervous thought I had done lots of research but every time I get online I read something new.

Syntrax is the brand, nectar is the line of Protein powders. Many flavors, no aspartame, low cal, low to no carbs and 23g Protein. Go to bjbariatrics.com and customize your own sample pack, Amazon.com has good deals on tubs when you figure out what you like. I'm still going through my samples, but the chocolate truffle and strawberry/kiwi are good!

I found the nectar Syntrax brand to be simply so so. After 11 months, my go to is Click at www.click.com. They also have a sample pack for 9.95. By far, it's the best to me. When you get a little further along, try the Chike for your coffee fix and I find the cheapest way to find it is on Amazon. Oh yeah, they have decaffeinated now too. I like to mix all of my shakes in the single serve blender with soy/milk and ice for that frappucino effect.

Where can I find the nectar products ,I'm scheduled to start my Protein shakes in May 10th

for the nectar "customize your own" sample pack: https://www.bjsbariatrics.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=bjb&Product_Code=synSamplePack&Category_Code=syn

and when you figure out what you like, buy them on Amazon - look for those sold by amazon and are eligible for free shipping on orders over $25.

I realize tastes might/will change, so I'm not stocking up on flavors just yet. I plan to get another round of samples and then decide what to buy in tubs after surgery. I did stock up on the Unflavored nectar, and I'm pleased with it. I've only tried it in chicken broth, crystal light and orange juice, but it's undetectable in all of those! I do want to try the Chike brand, and Big Train for the coffee/latte flavors they have. :)

That's a good way to get started Makemyownluck. Get a lot of samples and decide what you like best. Also keep in mind that a lot of people, including me, have/had trouble with any dairy type Protein Drinks the first couple of weeks after surgery. I drank the clear Isopure, or what many will refer to as Isopuke, until I could stand the dairy based Protein drinks. It comes in 20 oz bottles and you can get it at the Vitamine Shop. I would also suggest getting single bottles of it to see if you can stand any of them. The flavors I was able to tolerate were Mango Peach and fruit Punch.

"Isopuke" Good name for it! My nurse told me pre op that they taste like Jolly Ranchers. I don't know where she gets her Jolly Ranchers, cuz mine tasted nothing like em! Yuck! Spent $58 on a case on GNC.com and drank maybe 1/4 of 1. They finally expired a couple months ago so I tossed em (have trouble tossing good food. I wait till it expires then I don't feel as guilty!)

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
