How Soon Can I Resume My Pre-Sleeve Eating Lifestyle?!?!

I had many self-doubts before my operation. I envisioned myself fainting in a supermarket from lack of food and paramedics being called. I contemplated going bonkers with hunger and being super depressed from it. None of that happened.

I am not famished' date=' never have been. Far from fainting, this morning I ran up a steep hill, full speed, with 5 pound weights in each hand, 11 times. After that I did 3 sets of push ups and 3 sets of knee bends. Not bad for a 64 year old cancer survivor.

My hunger is far less than I worried about. The exercise actually helps in that department, it seems to give me the desire for good food and not too much of it.

It is natural to wonder how we are going to do before an event that will try our bravery and resolve.

When I face something big I think about the soldiers on D-Day who were being shuttled from ships to the beach to face a wall of bullets that was taking down friends all around them. They ran right into it for love of country and fellow soldier with their hearts beating out of their chest. They were just humans like me but nothing I have ever faced comes close to comparing. We humans are capable of great fortitude if we give ourselves a chance and have faith.[/quote']

I am one of those sleevers who can't help myself and answer the posts of those performing the ridiculous food anticts as you stated above. I just don't understand it I hope that with a little shaking up they can realize what they should be doing and seek the help/guidance to get there.

I don't believe they should be coddled; sometimes I think they tell half the story just to see what type of responses they will get; you know the "I have gained weight/ can't lose weight/ am a slow loser". Expect some sound advise from those of us who have been successful, take it for what it is and use it if they choose, don't complain when someone answers you honestly, for them the truth hurts and they don't want to hear it.

My philosophy from the beginning of my journey has been, train like an athlete for the rest of my life. I have food cravings, mostly Protein. My thinking revolves around feeding my muscles, having enough carbs for energy and Vitamin nutrition and Fiber for health. The garbage food that is presented to me gets little more than a taste. I am building something here, I have sworn off tearing myself down.

The sleeve was a gift given to me. It cost me $1000. out of pocket and nearly $40,000 was paid by insurance. It was like I was walking to a goal that was impossible to reach and someone came along and gave me the keys to a Rolls Royce. I would be an idiot to not make the most of this.

An alcoholic once told me he used to detox just so alcohol would have a greater effect on him, not to change his life. Get clean, get dirty again.

You might hate being fat but that is not enough. You have to hate living and thinking like a fat person. You must hate the process of getting fat. Stay off that train, find the right one!

Really liked this post man. Training and eating like an athlete. Don't wanna be normal. Want to eat clean, lift big, and get big the good way with solid mass instead of flab. Gonna make this gift work and make it work well.

This is a rant in the truest sense of the word. This is probably the most frustrated you will see me get on this forum. I've been hanging out on VST for almost a year and I am now 3 weeks postop. I'm no expert' date=' but I am a woman with food addiction trying to get healthy.

Some of the questions I've come across blow my mind. Truly. It's not that I don't get this is a journey and a struggle. I do. I get it. I've wanted to lick spoons!

But really?! bread a week out?! Trying to figure out how soon b4 you can get drunk?! Let's eat at McDonalds for Protein?! I've been sleeved a month, can I get Chinese takeout?! I sure miss bingeing?!?! Pass the box of donuts, it is all I can afford?!?!

Disclaimer: I plan to eat realistically. I know I will eat bread again. I'm sure wine will pass between my lips again. I imagine I will partake in Chinese food, although a buffet would be a total waste. I will sink my teeth into a Boston cream donut. But I'm 3 weeks out. These things are not my priority. And while I won't tell others what their priorities should be, if these are yours you may want to find out why.

I've been tempted to ask my uncle, he is going on two years sleeved, what he can hold comfortably in one sitting max. But when I reflect on why I'm asking that I realize its my addiction wanting to know this. Wanting to anticipate max binge ability. When I read some of the above questions my brain translates it to my subject title: How Soon Can I Resume My Pre-Sleeve Eating Lifestyle?

Answer: NEVER! Honestly from one food addict to another. If you're planning on going back to eating that way, why did you have surgery? I am 14 months out, have lost 122 lbs. 104% of my excess weight. I had surgery because I didn't EVER want to go back to where I was. I CAN eat just about anything, I just no longer WANT to. Tough struggle ahead for you. Sincerely, I wish you all the best!

I am 2 weeks out. Sure, I read my literature from the doc, but coming on here so much, I tried to weed out carbs at 1 week when puréed foods started. I had pain, I lost slowly, I was tired.

I looked over my list 3 days ago, and it says to start with soft carbs...potatoes, oatmeal, cream of wheat. I decided to keep it natural, but added potatoes to my string cheese and Beans. I also drank apple juice which went down delightfully.

I went from losing 1.5 every other day...to -1, -1.6, -1 the last three days. And I've felt alive. Until my weight loss slows, I will have fruit and veggies that some will condemn, because it seems to work for my body. For me, Chinese take-out can be very healthy too!

That said.....sometimes I want to SLAP these people, lol lol! I read, "Cake is a soft food, right?" Seriously?!?

I did not have this surgery so I could eat the high calories unhealthy foods I had pre-op. I have tried a couple bites of bread once and may again but it will be way down the road. I have not had soda or any sweets that were not sugar free. After enduring weeks of sickly sweet Protein Shakes, I do not miss dessert. I have made fried chicken, pork chops and chicken parmigiana for my family and have not taken a bite. For me every bite I take must have a purpose. If it it doesn't help me reach my Protein or nutritional goals, I don't eat it. I will now deprive myself in the future but for now I am content. When will I resume eating like I did pre-op? The answer to that question is never.

People are sick. You just give them all the support and experience you can and be thankful it's not you today, cause it could be you tomorrow.

Someone said "we need to be thankful we're not all sick at the same time." I agree with that 100%.

I am 3 months post op. I had Chinese food today and wine. I still stayed under my calorie limit. I also got all my Protein in. I don't need someone to say its ok or not ok. It's fine for me. Do I do this everyday? Nope. My nut is fine with this. People need to worry about themselves and stop creating inane posts. ( not this post the ones referenced)

      Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

      Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
