Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum

Hi there,

I am considering Dr. Kirshenbaum in Aurora, CO (www.lapbandrockies.com) I know that there are a few of you in LBT that went to him. I am interested in knowing your thoughts on him and if you have had any complications. I am just a little leary since the price is so low, there is little on the internet about him, and I will be traveling from WI to have this done. ;) Any information you could provide would be much apppreciated...

Thanks!

Sheila:)

I was blessed to be banded by Dr. K on his birthday! I was his 700th patient. I honestly have to say it was an outstanding experience. I came from out of state and would do it all over again in a second. I am home now, learning how to rewire my eating habits and work with my new "tool". I plan on flying back to Colorado in April for fill number 1. So far, excellent care, great experience. Just ready to get over being sore where the incisions are in my tummy.

Congratulations!! I am out of state as well, and am always going back to Dr.K for fills. He is amazing!

  • 2 weeks later...

Hi, I'm new to the forums, though I have been reading this thread for the past couple days looking for a someone else who asked this question already.. cant find it.

I have my surgery scheduled with Dr. Kirshenbaum on April 8th, and I've already talked to the nutritionist and in the midst of trying to write down everything she said and also check my numerous pages of questions for her, I didnt question one comment from her further.

She said I would need the protein shakes 3 times daily for the first month, then after that 2 times daily for LIFE.

It didnt really freak me out until I started searching the stores for high protein shakes. I thought I would buy a whole bunch of different kinds pre-surgery and try them out to see which ones I liked. I am amazed at the cost!!!

Two a day for life will add up! I have a friend who had this surgery a few years ago and she doesnt do them anymore, but she really didnt follow any of the diet rules after surgery and has lost weight, but she has kind of just stopped getting fills now and I dont want to take the wrong advice.

Just wondering if anyone follows the 2 times a day rule or not and what, if any, consequences you have noticed, good or bad.

Thanks,

Tracy

I'm far from the perfect bandster and I must've missed that part of Paula's lesson.

I usually manage to get 60 - 70 grams of protein from food and I call that good. I will on occasion eat or drink a protein supplement between meals to keep me from worse snacks, but it's not common.

I was banded in July 2009 and have lost nearly 70 pounds.

can't type... banded in 2009 not 2007

Funny thing though, when I was in for a fill two weeks ago, I mentioned I got hungry between meals. Dr. K suggested protein shakes as snacks. Probably a good idea (since they can be so good for you) but I didn't take his suggestion as a "must".

Hello my friends:

Stopping by to say HELLO!! Long time no see and long time no visit.

To Tracy: Hello my friend and best of luck with your surgery. I am so very glad I had mine done. To answer your questions I think the purpose of having the shakes is because that first month you are getting use to that new feel for eating. The safest and sure way you will get that necessary protein in your body is a shake.

Don't think the rest of your life you will drink shakes..unless you want to.. by no means. You just want to be sure you are staying on the healthy side and not eating under the protein guidelines.

Update to me: Still have the Fibromyalgia confirmed by three doctors, still looking for pain relief, weight loss has been a slow crawl surely because I'm loaded on pain meds and my metobolic rate is soooo slow. OTHERWISE I feel great and happy to be here.

I have hope in a new doctor today who is doing 36 lab tests on me one will take three weeks to get back. He said sometimes we have other conditions that mask or present as something they are not and we get misdiagnosed.

I am purposeful in getting a good remedy to my illness and dream of the day I reach a healthy happy body moment. Until then, onward we all go.

To those reading this after I post, HELLO, I miss you and please know I can't wait until my next trip to Colorado and Red Robin. Take care.

Patty in Florida

I haven't been on here in forever! I've been very very busy taking a few trips and working out a lot. I'm now doing 2 water aerobics classes, 2 Zumba classes, and 2 weightlifting classes per week. Any of you who've met me will be suprised when you see me again...I had all the hair dye removed from my hair because I became allergic to it. I'm going to have to find a new avatar with blonde hair, though the more it grows out, it will be white.

Tracy,

for me I drink 1 shake most days 2 if its a day Iam low on protein. I buy them at costco 160 cals and 30 grams protein. If I dont have one I may have a protein bar.

Anyone up for Red Robin in the next week or two?? I don't know about anyone else, but I can use the camaraderie and support :smile2:

If you're interested let me know what day(s) work for you, and we can set something up. :(

The only day that works for me in the next two weeks would be Tuesday the 13th. Going on a cruise the next day. If that day doesn't work for others, I understand.

Wow.... you lucky dog. Wish I was able to travel half as much as you :smile2:

I can do Red Robin on Tues the 13th - 7pm?

Tracy, I use the whole foods brand 365 vanilla protein powder mix for making shakes with skim milk. (then I can add instant coffee or cocoa powder or a banana, or peanut butter). When I want a fruit juice based shake, I use the Natural Factors Whey Factors 100% Natural Whey Protein, unflavored, also from whole foods, and then will add fresh or frozen fruit. I usually have 1 shake a day, for breakfast.

Hmmmmm... I never thought of adding cocoa powder. I will have to try that.

Going for a fill today :)

I am hoping that will kick start my loss again. I really need to get in the right mindset. I seem to have lost my motivation ( I really want to lose.... I just don't seem to be motivated to do what I need to do..... if that makes any sense???)

I have been teetering between 88 and 94 pounds loss for months :smile2:.

I really want to get to that 100 pound mark.
