Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum

Recommended Posts

Wrkl8~ I was going to send you a PM (private message...took me a while to figure out what that meant!), but you must not be set up for it...can you get set up for it and PM me, or PM me your email address?

Also, I am cracking up :P about the waiting room!! So...the brunette one (wasn't sure if I should say the brunette, or the fat one...lol) in the giggling duo against the back wall would be me! That is so funny we were there at the same time! Now, were you sitting against the same wall as the exit door is, or in the corner at the back wall? There were two black business suited gals, one blonde, one dark hair, and I thought for sure the blonde was sitting next to me at the back wall. Ooooo, tell me which one you were! This is too funny. His office should be like an AA meeting (no offense whatsoever to those who are recovering, will recover, or love someone in that place...I just pictured this type scenario in my head and am amusing myself picturing it in his busy office because we are recovering in our own way!) "My name is Kelly, I'm from Colorado, on LBT I am want2bmeagain, and...I'm fat" !!!

Ha, ha, ha....we would know eachother right away...gawd, why is that thought so amusing to me right now?!! :) Must be cuz we sat there for 2 hours! So, yep, that was me against the back wall!

Recovery~ Actually, I had just been thinking of posts I had read pre op and the gals that were at the gym in 3 days....I DON"T THINK SO!

I did not feel anything close to normal until yesterday. Luckily, I had done my work schedule so that I didn't have anything I HAD to do for a week..so I was able to take narcotics:faint:, kids advil, and sleep. Guaging against posts I had read, no, I never would have thought it would be so hard, painful, and fatiguing. My 4 yr. ago hysto produced an inordinate amount of pain for the procedure...will never know why (it was so bad then, I swore I was bleeding internally). So, I wondered if I would react to this surgery "worse" than others. And, I did.

Ok, so i am typing way too much on here...will bore the snore out of everyone! PM me your email, and I will email you the thoughts I have!

MAL~ Late last night I finally had my first sit n read session on the toilet! :whoo:

Did talk to Dr. K's new gal, Natalie (she said she worked at the surgery center till she went with Dr K a week ago)~ She recommended like Milk of Magnesia (I think)..but, isn't that the nasty white, chalky, gaggy stuff?? :car:

The benefiber sounds like what I need. I swear, if I have to voluntarily subject myself to one more liquid, gross, puky medicine, I will run screaming down the middle of the street!:P Thanks for liking to read my posts! I am sure I get too wordy for some, but oftentimes, there aren't enough words to describe our new journey, encourage our new found friends, and to grasp the shoulder we need to cry on:think

Lap~ your shots are very good! Keep that shutter going! :first:

Hi Michelle~

do you live right in Denver? I really ought to get a map of North America and stick the push pins with flags adorned with everyone's names! Would have to be all of N. America cuz we need to get Marcy on there! Hey, that might be a fun project actually!:clap2:

Kelly - thanks for remembering me. I feel the same way about liquid medicine and totally empathize with the kids when they need to take some meds. Liq. vicodin is AWFUL! So bad that I chucked it when I was done "needing" it...usually I keep those narcotics handy for an "emergency". I'd rather be in pain than take that stuff again!

I made some zucchini bread with my greenhouse harvest today. It's yummy! Now, if I could just stop myself from grazing! The kids like it and I'm just going to let them eat it up! See how I sacrifice the kids?! :-)

It's Stormy's 2nd birthday today...she wanted popcorn and a "milkshake" for breakfast...ok, why not? I added some Protein to the shake and she wasn't able to finish the popcorn! Haha!

:update: Greetings from a newly-banded woman! :whoo:

I am back home in NC after a 3-day whirlwind tour of Aurora/Parker and am sporting my incisions with pride. Very little pain, no nausea, keeping liquids in, moving around alot -- I'm feeling good! Gurlygirl, how are you doing???

The pictures on the board are wonderful!!! Thanks!! Sunsets are my favorite.

I had Dr. K make some pictures of my band and as soon as I can figure it out, I'll post them here. They are so cool!

More later, friends.

Karen

Karen.... Congratulations on your new band!!! Wow, that's great to hear that you are doing so well already... I guess you didn't have any time to do any sightseeing while you were in Colorado..

Keep us posted on your progress...

want2b - Dr. K said I could progress ask I saw fit. The "handout" was really just a guide. I have to tell you that my recovery went quite well and I was eating regular food by week 3, but there were times that I took it slower than necessary - I can't risk issues since it costs so much to get out of Nome and see a doc. I think, as long as you're tolerating liquids go to thicker liquids (creamy Soups, potato soups, mashed potatoes and the like) then on to VERY WELL chewed up regular foods. Just taking the time to thoroughly chew something will be just fine...just give it a minute or two between bites to make sure it's going down ok.

want2be.... I'm looking forward to our meeting in Dr K's office on the 15th... I know I will recognize you because you will be the one that says; "Hello my name is Kelly and I'm from Colorado." :waytogo:

That would be nice if you could hang around for a little bit before you head back over the mountain... That way we can have a nice visit...

Is there any one else that will be in Dr K's office on October 15th around 1:30-2:00? If there is maybe we can all meet up there...:high5:

Mornin' All!

My new port is treating me well. I had a really hungry day yesterday...I just hate that. But I started the day with carbs, and whenever I do that, it leads to a day of cravings and hunger. Rats. I know these things, when will I learn? So today I'm starting with a Protein Shake. They aren't bad. Need to thwart the munchies! The numbers on the scale are moving for me and my body seems to be settling (the number on my sizes is moving faster then the number on my scale!). Wish it would move just a little faster so that I can get some new bras!

Mal~ not to sound like a dumass....what is yurtin'? I'm so lost! heehee!

Dynamo~ Happy Holidays!

Brandy~ we'd love to see you at RR! The more, the merrier, and the more we learn about ourselves and our band travels! So far, we are trying to decide between Oct 10 or 11. I'm not sure what day thus far. I never care....I just love getting away with adults that understand all of this and what it really means to us! I'm even up for a second night in Oct if there are a few extras coming from outta town at a different time. As long as the Pass is passable (you never know about the weather here...may snow like crazy early!) I'm there!

Drews~ your pics really are adorable. Your eyes really capture a lense!

Have a great day all! I'll try and be on more later. Our house is infected with Strep, (my son) so I've been a busy nurse!:omg:

Woofay~Yurts are like dome shaped cabins, they are between a cabin and a tent I guess. We go up to Eagle once a year (Sylvan Lake) and we book these three Yurts that are in the middle of nowhere, we get the entire mountian to ourselves. It's nice, we can be as loud and noisy as we want...and we get pretty loud. We usually have a group of about 20. Each Yurt has 2 futons and a bunk, propane heating, solar lights. No electricity and no running Water. If you search Yurts you can see what they look like, they are pretty cool. Sorry I am still working on the picture posting thing...I know, I'll e-mail you a pic! I heard we might get snow up there on Sunday????

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
