Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum

Recommended Posts

I had my phone consult with Dr. K today!! Woohooo...one more step in my journey. I can't wait to be on the otherside in "Bandland".

I enjoyed speaking with Dr. K. Everything I've read on this thread about him is soooo true. Even over the phone he makes you feel so comfortable.

Well....I officially started my own "pre, pre-opt" diet the first of the year. My goal is to loose at least 30 lbs before my surgery date. I figure the actual pre-opt diet will knock off about 10. So far, on my own, I have dropped 13 lbs as of today!! Woooohooo!! I feel as if I'm getting a kick start on my weight loss.

Hope everyone is well.

:opps2:Okay...I'm a dork. I just realized I type "pre-opt" instead of "pre-op". My bad! Ya'll knew what I was talking about (ya'll= Okie for "you all", just in case).

Threedogpeople: Thanks for the recipes I will try them. I remember the cauliflower one from the South Beach Diet and remember that my whole family liked them.

thanks again,

LapDancer~ I hope you have good sucess walking with the hubby. I keep telling my husband we should go for walks and he is like, "Yeah, that sounds great." But we never do. :P Either too tired, or yadda yadda some other excuse. It is so gorgeous here that we really have no excuse!

threedogpeople~ Thanks so much for the recipe for the mashed cauliflower! I have a head in my fridge that I was going to toss soon because I hadn't yet chopped it up and wasn't sure what to do with it! lol. I am going ot try it tommorrow for dinner.< /p>

Amieru~ Isn't Dr K da bomb! :) I can't wait to meet him in person. I can't believe my surgery is NEXT week! ACK!

I also started my pre-op diet sooner than he required and so far have lost about 16lbs. I will weigh myself again this weekend and then I guess I will see where I "really" am when I get to his office. I am too heavy for my scale at home and I have been using an old old one here at work so I am not sure how accurate it is. :)

Congrats on your weight loss! Keep up the good work. I am hoping it will make things easier to transition once I get banded.

***

Wish I could do Red Robin with y'all. Would be so fun to meet. I won't be in town until next week though. If anyone wants to meet up again next week... I'm in! :)

Brandy: Thanks for the suggestion I'll try it.

I have my post op appt tomorrow, Natalie called this am to see how I was doing and gave me a few other suggestions. I walked on the treadmill last night for 30 minutes and am really surprised that it helped me not feel as sore. So I'll have to keep that up.

Which Red Robin do you all go to, and are newbies welcome?:D

:clap2:good for you on the treadmill! Keep it going!!

Of course your are welcome to RR!! We meet at the one on Arapahoe Rd and I25...is that I 25???...Woof...Dynamo???

Woofay~did you get an appointment? Do you think that having the flu might have caused some swelling? or were you too tight before?

Lap~how did the walk go?

Dynamo~ Happy to hear that your IRS stuff is settled. I am back into the gym mode!!! YIPEEE!! 3 mile cardio (I really like doing one mile each on the elptical, bike and treadmill, treadmill being my least favorite) and weights. i would LOVe to soak in a hot tub after working out, but my gym doesn't have one. I still eat too much int he evenings (always been my big problem).

Threedog~thanks for the recipes, sounds yummy! Tell me about your dogs. I LOVE dogs!!

LA~next week already!!! I must say that I don't regret my band at all, the best thing I have done for myself! There have been many times that I have made the wrong food choices, but the band helps so that I don't eat as much as I did before.

I travel from PA to see Dr. K and I could not be happier.

The support and concern he has for his patients is incredible. The staff is great and returns calls quickly.

When I went for my first fill, I was alone and kind of scared. Natalie, the patient coordinator, held my hand and stayed with me the entire time.

I plan to go back and have my fills there despite the travel.

I am a self pay so price was important to me.

I hope this helps.

Had my fill, everything went fine. The weirdest part was "hearing" the pop when he entered my port. Made me jump.

I got 3.55cc in a 10cc band. My lower stomach is hungry, but up above is gurggley. Normal? :help:

I am able to swallow and drink just fine. I also at 2 pieces of cookie dough (Bad, bad me) and they seemed ok to. We will see...

Red Robin List (copy and paste) Anyone Else????

Going to be there: Thursday January 10th 7 pm

Dynamo (Michelle)

Tied2BFit (Dee)

Mal

Marilyn (I HOPE)

Woofay (weather ???)

Spent the day in the ER with my mom. She was having trouble breathing, but her pulse/O2 was good. She has refused to use oxygen at night like it had been recommended after her sleep study. While I understand that it means she will have to consider it when she travels, come on! Anyway, good news. Nothing vital is wrong, just her body doesn't pull enough oxygen at night. Not bad for an 83 year old.

I did ok at the hospital, had a light lunch and worked out later than usual, but made it all the same. There is something wonderful about taking care of myself.

I hope this post finds you happy and healthy this 8th day of January. Man, time is flying!

Michelle

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
