Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum

Recommended Posts

I agree with DrewsLou, I sat in his office for a while today, and that phone hardly stopped ringing! I asked Marilyn and Robin how many surgeries Dr.K did in a month, but they just smiled... :(

I'm an instant gratification kinda girl myself so I would vote for having surgery ASAP. I know that Dr K is getting super busy lately, I'm not sure how far out he is booked currently.

Let me know what you decide!

Hi Shesha, I don't have much wisdom about fills, but from reading this forum I think it is fair to say that you won't know for sure about the fill for a while. I think it is a good sign that you could eat and drink, at least a small amount. That would tend to show that you are on the right track. But they say it takes some time to know for sure. I hope you will let us know how it goes. I'm definitely curious.

I'll keep you posted. I just read so much about how people get overfilled and that's when problems develop. I figured I was much better off with too little than too much! I just hope it will be worth the day off, $200.00 in airfare and hotel and car rental fees!! :(

btw.. I see you are doing really well, and without a fill! Almost to Two-terville!

Shesha - thanks for posting your results with the fill. I am having surgery on the 16th of April and want to do everything right. I am also encouraged that doing the fill in the am, gave you the ability to fix things in the afternoon. I understand that some docs are charging $300 to $400 for a fill, so the flight doesn't look as bad in that context. I am impressed how much you have already lost. Really it has just been 6 weeks, you go girl!

Hi Michelle!

I live near Longmont. You? Yes we will have to chat and compare notes. I am so excited about the procedure and about meeting new friends. My mom has meet some of her very close friends through the common experience of having WLS. I will keep you up to date as things go. have you talked with Paula yet? She is very nice and goes over everthing!

Hi Misty -

Yes, I met with Paula. It was a lot of information at once. I am sure we will do well, tho' everyone has been so positive about Dr. K. I have been sampling different kinds of Protein smoothies. I don't have a favorite yet.

I live near the Denver Tech Center, just south of the Cherry Creek Reservoir. I won't be at the April meeting but I will be there in May. It is great to meet other people who "get" me.

Best wishes and keep in touch. My regular email is mich1550@aol.com

Hi all

I just wanted to check in! I had surgery on Friday with Dr. K, and he was late for my "dance" because he had to do Shesha's unfill! ;) While I was waiting at the hospital, 2 others came in to have surgery with Dr. K. So, I know his practice is really starting to boom! Things went well during surgy, no hernia or gallbladder problems. I was back at the hotel by 4. They put a dramamine patch on me to prevent nausea, but it makes my eyes dilated, so seeing fine print is difficult. I walked a lot that evening, but did not sleep well that first night. I took 2 doses of the pain medicine and gagged on the taste both times. :welldoneclap: So, I started using a chicken broth chaser!! Fortunately, I have not had to use very much of it! I think the worst part of this recovery period is the discomfort of getting in and out of bed and sitting up and down.

We flew home on Saturday, I was exhausted. Got home and I went right to bed, I slept all night through!:notagree Travelling was easy, just a little slow!

I am having a hard time staying on Clear Liquids for the first 3 days. I feel like I am always :hungry: . I went out today and bought some protien powder from GNC. It makes my chicken broth taste really bad! :phanvan

So, 2 days post-op, and I am feeling really good, and have had no gas pains as of yet!

I also found out that starting on the 21st, Dr. K will also be doing surgery at the new Parker hospital in Parker, CO.

Also, I have to say "THANKS" to DrewsLou for suggesting the Rodizio Grill. We went there the night before my surgery. The food was awesome and we got to try lots of different things. But I am sure I had sticker  shock when the bill came. For 3 of us it was over $100. The meal itself was $31.95 each. They don't have menus, every meal is the same price, you just don't know what the price is until you get the bill!

Sorry about the long story, I just had to share!

That is fantastic. Welcome to the Light Side. Great news and thanks for sharing your interesting story. There goes Shesha, causing trouble again. We're getting used to that around here.

You are recovering really quick. That's very fortunate. I was basically a vegetable for almost two weeks after surgery. I had to keep telling my wife that vegetables are good for you. She was not buying it.

Well, it looks like Dr. K is really heading toward the big time on this lap banding stuff. I wonder how many he has done now. Did he mention it? Anyway, I think anyone who goes to him is lucky. Even though other lap band surgeons have done more, he's done thousands of other types of laparoscopic surgeries, so I feel like you are in good hands when you go there. And the staff is great.

So, again, welcome, and thanks for sharing your story.

Congrats on being banded Machele!!! Welcome to bandland! I think it's awesome that we have our own little corner of LBT here sharing the same surgeon.

Yikes! Over 30 bucks a plate?? It has been years since I have been there but I remember the food being great.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
