I have been having frequent dizzy spells and have fainted 2 times in the last month. I have not been able to see my surgeon because I moved and am having trouble getting my last surgeon to send my files. I see a nutritionist in 2 weeks. But today my doc said she's sure I've got vertigo. Has anyone ever developed this after being sleeved. I am 5 months out and doing ok otherwise. It just seems so random to me. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks

I did not have vertigo post surgery, but I had labyrinthitis (inner ear infection) several years ago which wasn't pleasant. I was prescribed meclizine and told to limit salt intake. It did clear up eventually, but it was nasty....I couldn't stand up without the walls spinning and throwing up my guts.

I'm not saying that yours is, but vertigo can be viral and it can last for 6 weeks or more. However, the dizziness and fainting to me sound more like something else--vertigo doesn't usually make you faint. My mom is struggling with viral vertigo right now and is waiting to see the ENT specialist. There is a manipulation the doctor can do to reposition basically crystals in your ear that affect balance/equilibrium. But you really should see an ENT to see if it is vertigo.

Could it be low blood sugar?

Are you post surgery? Are you making sure you get all your fluids and Proteins in?

yes! meclizine is the only thing that helps me when I have vertigo. I usually get it about once a year. It's awful! A very different feeling than being dizzy....

Is it room spinning or shifting? Does it happen with certain movements it changes in position? I evaluate balance patients (dizziness/vertigo). What you're describing-dizzy, fainting doesn't sound like vertigo but something else. Maybe low blood sugar, low blood pressure, even dehydration. I'd get to a doctor.

I had some dizziness about 4-6 wks post op and was told it was from dehydration. I've worked hard at increasing my fluids and am feeling much better now. That being said, I'd still get in to a doctor!

I agree!! I know the first time I had it, scared the crap out of me especially since I suffer from Migraines. I thought I had a brain tumor. :(

My blood pressure and sugar are both great. At my last appt they had me monitor my sugars and those are really good. Both times I fainted I was on my period and it was after I turned my head quickly. The dizziness is an on and off again thing, not all day but several times a day. It happens most often when I turn or make a sudden movement.

Oh, by the way thanks for all the input. I just don't want to start taking medicine for this if it could be something else. Thinking about waiting to start till I see the nutritionist.

Also, I am post surgery. 5 months out. I feel like I drink enough, maybe even more than I need to, between 60 and 70 and day, lol I am constantly peeing. I did just see a doc today but can't see MY surgeon tll my last surgeon sends them my files, and as I am dealing with military hospitals I may actually end up having to fly up and hand carry them, which is completely my fault for not doing in the first place! Anyways I hope I answered everyone's questions. Thanks again.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
