Ambien and the sleeve

Recommended Posts

I do so well ALL day..stay under my calories eat all my Protein then I take my Ambien and its like I haven't eaten all day. I will NOT fall asleep until I have something to eat. I know its a side effect of the drug but it is so annoying. I asked my doc for something new and he said that they all pretty much have a similar side effect, and I already know what my demons are from Ambien...its just so annoying!!

I take ambien every day also.

I save a Jello for around bedtime and drink a lot of Water. Surprisingly I dont need to get up in the middle of the night from the Water consumption.

if I don't take it I don't sleep..and then if I don't sleep I end up falling asleep in the middle of the day and I need to be up in the middle of the day not sleeping all day and up all night..teaching doesn't occur at night, if it did I'd be golden lol..Its a catch 22...It sucks having sleeping problems. I took myself off all my other mind altering medications but I still can't sleep :(

Gin,

Do you take it and then go lay down in bed right away? I noticed if I took it and hung out waiting for it to kick in, I would have conversations I don't remember having.

Try taking it right before you lay down to go to sleep. That might cut down on the needing to eat while on it.

I have a prescription for Ambien, I take it mostly if my husband is out of town or if we are traveling. My dad told me about Melatonin, it is OTC, 5 mg is what I have but it comes in 3 mg as well - it's great. It does not "knock you out" like a sleeping pill, it just relaxes me, lets me read or whatever and clear my mind of all the clutter!! :) A time released version just came out recently and I like it as well or better. I did ask my doctor about it and she gave the ok....said we produce it naturally in our bodies and as we get older, we produce less. She said some like it and some, it does nothing for them. Just a suggestion......

Ambien does say in the paperwork that side effects include eating or cooking, driving, sex.....all sorts of things you may not remember doing. Driving would be a BIG deal.

I've tried taking Melatonin..it does nothing for me..There are times when the Ambien does nothing for me and I need a Xanax in conjuction with it. I usually take it right when I'm ready to go to sleep, I can't fall asleep in the dark so my tv is on but maybe I'll try turning it off..It really sucks doing so good all day to remember eating a meal when I'm not even "awake."

The only thing I've done on Ambien is the sex and cooking, thankfully no driving..my husband would know enough to stop me cuz half the time I don't know where my keys are anyway.

I hate not being able to sleep..I worked through my depression with help of my therapist and coming off my meds before surgery..Ambien and the Xanax are the only thing left, but I get bad anxiety and work myself up so the Xanax may always stay plus its so minute that it shouldn't be an issue.

Lunesta might be worth trying.. Ambien did all those freaky things to me (talking to people not remembering) so I was switched to lunesta.

I was on those for three years (after the death of my brother) I was on all of it Xanax ambien and a few other anti depressants anti anxiety meds...

It was hard but two years ago I kicked it all.

I knew that I wouldn't sleep and I didn't at first but I do know and feel so much better being off of most of it ! I still take a very small amount of Prozac but will be off soon enough

Good luck to you.

Oh I feel so much better being off of all of that stuff! :)

Thanks..yeah the day I was off Cymbalta I was so proud of myself..I felt better and just tried to figure out how to deal with my life without those medications. I may still need them someday but for now I don't..I ad to learn that the meds can't control me!! I will see about Lunesta..I think I'm afraid of not sleeping!

I was too but I took the time and let myself be ok with it.. I don't work so it was easier for me.

I was given so much **** by the psychiatrist something to sleep something to wake something to make it through day something to counteract the side affects of this one and something to counteract that one! I was a walking science experiment.

I had my world crumble around me and that was hard and i needed help, but I think living through prescription drugs wasn't really living too..

Good luck to you and yes I did one at a time too!

So I think you are on the right path :)

I used to take Lunesta and loved it. Ambien is cheaper now with the generic so my insurance company made the medical decision to change me to ambien. I'm so glad they know my medical history better then my Dr. I mean, he has only had 4 years of college, 4 years of med school , 3 years of residency and 2 year speciality training. Not to mention the years of experience of practicing medicine. On the other hand my insurance company has a clerk who made this decision probably has a high school degree maybe if she is lucky a little community college under her belt. Of course, she was probably studying fashion design.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
