@shnyinside check out Southern Surgical Hospital in Slidell. Their website is www.whyweight.com They are on LindbergDr, it's the i10 service road. They have a group of doctors, like 6 of them, that all preform the surgery. Dr Moore did mine and she was fantastic. Their main office in in Mandeville in the Premier Building on the 190 service road near Lakeview hospital and they have a smaller office in Slidell near the surgical hospital. Everyone in the office was great and were accommodating. They do surgery at several hospitals in the area and I was able to choose and had it here in Slidell at southern surgical.

Hi everyone. First time here. I am looking for a surgeon on the Northshore area. Covington, Mandeville or Slidell. Will go to New Orleans or Baton Rouge if I need to, but would prefer not to go that far. Any and all input appreciated. The surgeon I wanted to use is leaving his practice. Such a waste of talent. He's an awesome surgeon. Sooooo, that leaves me looking for a replacement. Would prefer someone with privileges at St. Tammany Parish Hospital. I'm so needing to do this for my health. This is a wonderful site!

Dr. Andrew Hargroder is who I was going to go with. He works out of St. Elizabeth in Gonzales as well as the we Woman's. His staff is super sweet. He is also one of the first surgeons in the US to use the single incision.

Was u going to Dr Karl Orydone love him ..Dr Lavin is in Mandeville I here good this about him as well but Dr Karl did mine I'm 9 weeks 50 pounds down

Yes! I love Dr. Ordoyne. He's the bomb-dot-com! He was rounding a couple of weeks ago and he broke my heart when he told me he wasn't going to be doing surgery anymore. He was the only one I was considering. I know his track record.

Oh, and definitely not Lakeview! That's our competition! LOL Gotta be STPH!

@bittahoney - I had someone mention Dr. Moore to me just this weekend. Will have to get more info. She seemed very happy with it and her surgery. Was EMS. She also told me about this site. Really good information!

I got my date today-APRIL 17. Now it seems so real that I begin this journey. Yes, I am nervous. It is major surgery and elective.

Today my husband said he would not do it for himself. He will support me but does not want to tell me to do it. Men do not like to commit incase you come back at them and blame them for agreeing with you.

So any help or encouragement would be very much appreciated from you.

Congratulations on getting your date. I'm just starting and fear it will be a long wait. At least your husband is being supportive of you. Who is doing your surgery? Was it difficult to get approved? This seems like a very supportive community. I know I'll be pulling for you!

I had my surgery two days ago with Dr. Drake Bellanger. He works out of St. Elizabeth in Gonzales, Woman's in Baton Rouge (this is where I had mine), Andrew other in Livingston parish, but I don't know the hospital name.

My surgery was super easy, he said, and I had no complications except for nausea from meds and my usual high bp. I would recommend him in a heartbeat.

Today I still have some nauseam but cut my pain med dosage in half to reduce that, and it seems to be working.

Wow! Two days out and doing so well. Great news! Glad it is going so beautifully. I've heard Dr. Bellanger's name a few times now. I contacted a surgeon in Covington yesterday and am going to a seminar April 16th. But I am not yet decided 100% on surgeon. Did you spend the night at the hospital? So glad you're doing so good. Thanks for the information. I may check into him a bit further. Baton Rouge is a bit more than two hours away from me, but worth it for good outcome.

Thanks again!

There are 6 different surgeons at Southern Surgical, so if you don't get along with one, try another. And they seem to each have priveliges at different hospitals, or you can go to their hospital in Slidell. Since it's a specialty hospital it wouldn't be a direct competitor of STPH like Lakeview is.

I saw Dr. Moore 7 years ago when I chickened out of the lap band, and see Dr. Redmann now because he's on my new insurance and Dr. Moore isn't.

They're sugarfree snowballs?!

Hell yes there are! I don't even miss the full-sugar ones. Those always made me sick so I switched in my teens.

Y'all. Cream of Brie and crab. It's what's for dinner and a-freaking-mazing.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
