15 Days out and I've only lost 10lbs.

OK so I haven't used the scale since I posted this thread. Thank you all for your encouragement. I am thankful that I have lost some weight. I realize I have to give my body time to adjust. I guess it doesn't really know what's going on right now. I would rather slowly lose 2lbs a month consistently than continue to gain 2lbs a year.

I am gaining my confidence back. I feel it. My ex used to call me fat ass and would tell me no one was going to date me when I gained weight. 3 years ago I was 130lbs and (not to toot my own horn) very attractive. Then the weight gain and along with the weight gain, depression, hormone imbalance, severe acne and no energy. I started to hate shopping for clothes and became irritable with friends who invited me to the mall. I stopped dating and going out with friends. It's really sad how gaining weight can affect your self esteem, health and relationships.

My kids were very happy for me when I decided to get sleeved. I couldn't tell anyone else because of fear of criticism. My ex told me the other day that my face is getting skinny and asked if I am working out. I told him yes. I think he felt threatened that I am on my way to getting back to the old me because apparently he went and got himself a membership to the gym.

Again thank you all for your words of encouragement. Only people who have been where I am at understand what I am talking about.

I am glad you're doing we'll. I hope you don't waste your time on your ex when you're back skinny. He doesn't deserve you. He sounds like he will find something else wrong. Be careful.

I am 30 days out today and have only lost 8 pounds since surgery, 15 total with pre=op, its very depressing, but I did have a few carbs so hoping to get back to Protein only this week and see if that will make a difference, also need to just drink plain Water instead of crystal light, I think the false sugars are a big part too.

My weight loss is slow but I am not worried because it is happening. I am 5 months out and at 50lbs. I try not to compare my loss with others because we are each unique individuals with different metabolisms etc. you might want to check in with your doctor and review what you are doing and if he says you are on track then don't stress. It will happen! I have been on a plato several times that will last for two weeks and then I will drop 4 or 5 lbs in a week. Hang in there!

You know I'm definitley no expert but I will tell you marymouse50 when ever I have lost weight it's because I stay away from carbs. I knew going into this I would. Not change that even though it's not so recommended . I would first be sure to get all your Protein in you have to exercise. If your gonna have carbs eat them early. And you also are small in weight that makes a difference also. Keep trying new things you can do this,! Your already losing! Don't compare I hope this helps.

I am trying to concentrate on healthy eating with a variety of foods so I don't get bored! Today for lunch I am having meat marinara sauce cooked with onions, bell pepper and chopped celery over 5 small cheese filled wheat tortellini with a sprinkling of low fat cheese on top. Will give me about 20 grams of Protein plus a limited portion of good carbs and sone veggies! This is more my focus than what my enemy the scale says or limiting myself to only protein. However I do realize this is an individual journey and each person may not agree with my choices so please do not feel I criticizing anyone who chooses more Proteins and no carbs.

Wow this conversation is really helpful to me, thank you all for your input. I am 1 week post op and I see my surgeon tomorrow. I am sure he will put me on the scale (THE NASTY SCALE) am I am afraid. Once I do this I am not going to get back on the scale unitl I see my nutritionist at the end of the month. This light cranberry juice I have been drinking I just noticed has 50 Calories, 14 grams sugar and 14gram carbs, I am only allowed 10oz of it a day but boy you really need to keep track of what you are drinking. If I do not drink these 10oz of diet ocean spray I sure do not know what to do since everything else is so tasteless.

I am on the heavy end of the scale. Starting at 301... lost 13 lbs on my 3 day liquid pre op diet... lost 3 lbs 2 days after surgery (2/28/13) and then 4 more 3 days after that. Have not lost another ounce in 10 days!!!!! I was feeling very alone in this situation. I am doing EVERYTHING like i am suppose to so I have been VERY concerned. However' date=' I KNOW that surely It will begin to come off. RIGHT?? It has to... I know I have never seen a fat person eat as little as I do. It just has to start coming off. <img src='http://www.bariatricpal.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':(' />[/quote']

I'm in the same boat as u. This sucks

I am 12 days out and have lost 11#. While I wish it was more, I know as long as I am doing what I am supposed to, it will come off. It has no choice. The only carbs I am getting are from about 1/3 cup of Tomato Soup that I am having 3 times a day to sort of simulate meals. walking about 2-3 miles per day split up. Always been a slow loser but a fast gainer. :(

I am committed to being patient with this. Yes, the food sucks right now (or lack there of) but my focus is 6 months down the line.

Also making sure to get the liquids and Protein in. Getting about 80 grams of Protein a day and at least 60 oz of liquids. It's a full time job this liquid thing. :P

Hang in there, It will come off in good time. :)

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
