Pre-op birth control

Recommended Posts

I'm nervous and hoping someone had this experience....today I had my preop stuff done at the hospital to include blood work, EKG, etc. All results are good. as I left I was provided with preop instructions very similar to what my dr had provided in my last office visit last week except it also stated to stop birth control 2 weeks prior to surgery. My dr never mentioned that but is aware I take them. I was not taking the pill at all last week because it was my time of the month, but I did take them the first four days of this week. I'll stop today but my surgery is this Tuesday...in 5 days. I'll call my dr in the morning to get his thoughts but can't get it off my mind and don't want to postpone anything. I'm healthy other than overweight and sore knees. Anyone had a similar experience or thoughts on it? I'm just thinking about blood clots and other things that the pill puts me at risk for...doesn't help that it's YAZ

I've been on BC pills, and they never told me to stop taking them. I was only not supposed to take it the day of surgery if taking with out food gave me an upset stomach.

I'm curious how you made out. I'm also on Yaz & was originally told to stop taking it, but since my last surgeon appt in November they've apparently changed their mind. At my pre-op appt last Wed, the PA at my surgeon's office said I don't have to stop taking it, but that since I won't be able to take it for about 3-4 says due to being in the hospital I need to use a back up method for the rest of the month. A little confused, but whatever lol

I heard back from my dr this morning. He said it was fine that I took them for a few days. It's just a standard preop process they tell everyone. All my preop blood work was fine so he has no concerns. Surgery is tomorrow.

Sorry it took a while to reply. I had my surgery this past Tuesday. No worries at all from being on the pill. They gave blood thinners and compression boots and lots of walking, so all is good there. I did have a pretty big hernia where my band was removed and it appears the suture to close it was too tight so I'm still on an IV since I cannot get any Water or my own saliva down without having to spit it pack up. I was frustrated but tomorrow they'll go back in to remove the suture or replace it with a looser one that should allow liquid to pass through. A little frustrating but I'm. Sure it will be good. I know the dr is the best in my city and all the hospital people agree so I'm weeping a positive attitude. Just miss my own bed! Good luck with yours next week!

I was told my my pervious clinic to stop birth control a month or 2 before. My current surgeon actually just recommended the IUD to be put it to avoid pregnancy after surgery. I just had surgery on Tuesday.. Yaa!! Just call your doc and let him know

My doc called me and told me to immediately stop taking my BC pills. He's not taking any chances with the blot clots.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
