Im day 5 post op. I was able to eat and keep down Tomato Soup with a little sharp cheese on it. OMG, best tasting meal in weeks. The entire time Im eating it, my stomach is gurgling. It didnt hurt or anything but I dont know what it means. When I got to the end of my bowl, about 1/4 cup, my stomach is still growling at me, then I feel a slight full sensation or is it a hungry sensation? Why cant I tell if Im full or still hungry? What does it feel like?

I don't eat Tomato Soup, but I am told the acid from tomatoes is an irritant to your sleeve. That may be causing the stomach growling. I know that when my stomach doesn't like something, like today when I had a few grapes, my stomach started growling and I felt a few gas bubbles in the back of my throat.

My full sensation is a bit of pressure at the bottom of my throat inside my chest. I start burping right before I get full as well.

I had this problem, but learned that it was likely acid reflux and not hunger. It turned out that folks were right about this. I started taking acid reflux pills like prevacid or prilosec and then finally the prescription my doc prescribed for me e.g. omerpozale (?). This helped quite a bit. At first I was taking the pills in the am, but because of the hunger feelings following my evening meal (what little I could eat LOL) I started taking another pill in the evening. Now I am learning the difference between being hungry and having acid reflux. I think what was confusing me is that I wasn't having the usual symptoms of acid reflux like food coming back up, I was actually feeling like I was hungry ALL THE TIME. Things are much better now.

5 days post op I was on strict Clear Liquids only and not even Protein Drinks. I'm 8 days post op and was just cleared yesterday to do Protein drinks and creamy Soups. Nothing acidic like Tomato Soup though. I can barely manage a few teaspoons of creamy bean Soup.

My dr prescribed Prilosec (OTC) 40 mg daily for stomach acid. My tummy gurgles but I'm not hungry at all. I have to crush the pills and then mix with applesauce.

Everyone is differant. I was cl liq for three days then full liquid for the next week. No matter what I ate or drank...the first few weeks my stomach made lots of weird noises. It does get less. Good luck

I'm almost 2 weeks post op and can eat and drink anything. I'm on full liquids since day 3. I hope I'm not hurting my sleeve, but I drink 3 Protein drinks/soup a day and am getting 8 - 10 cups of Water a day. I hope I'm not drinking too much, but i want to make sure I stay hydrated. I think the fullness comes more when we can start eating solid foods...maybe puree. I guess I'll find out in 2 days when I get to start pureed foods.

Oh, yesterday when I had my post-op appt with the surgeon he said I was well hydrated and that I was doing well and can move on the puree in a few days.

Like joatsaint, I feel a fullness/pressure at the base of my throat and I burp also. I think this is a sign that I'm eating too fast, but maybe it's a sign of fullness also.

NOw I am experiencing the reflux feeling. Like its dancing between my stomach and throat. I am on prescription reflux meds, starts with a 'O', and have been since I came home from hospital.

This is so frustrating.

I know it doesn't feel like it, but it does get better. I had a pretty rough time in the beginning but things are beginning to get much better. Just do the best you can. I know that's not much but don't stress yourself comparing your progress to others. Just try to keep yourself hydrated. If popsicles are the best you can do then do popsicles.

Thank you. I dont do popsicles, but I am having trouble getting my Protein in because the smell of it has beccome sickening. Ive drank so much of it over the past few weeks, I dont even want to make it anymore. Ill try again tomorrow and see how I feel... I know it will get better, im just impatient. Thanks for the encouragement Popsicle.

I hope you feel better. If the Protein drinks are too yucky, try milk with higher protein & lower carbs. Good luck

I sure wish I could do a popsicle. NUT says Surgeon doesn't want the chance of biting and then the solid hits the staple line. I do bite my popsicles and ice cream.

Yes, hold on. I have 8 week altogether of clear and full liquids. Can't even get to pureed until week 9. What 2 months. Don't you think I will be a little bit sick of it all. YES I WILL! LOL

I told my mom today, I feel funny. She asked, are you in pain? Nope. Just feel...I don't know what I'm feeling. I'm 6 days post op, and don't know is that a I need to eat feeling? Did I sip to fast? Am I full? I'm thinking that will change when I get to more solid foods because the signals aren't too clear now lol.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
