My Skin - Pictures speak a thousand words.

Recommended Posts

I get alot of comments on my posts that my skin "wasn't that bad". I guess the photos I was using as before plastics didn't quite show the extent of the damage that obesity did to my stomach so I am here to set the record straight with pictures. While I understand that there are much worse cases of excess skin, for me it was unacceptable for me to live the rest of my life looking like I did. I guess I set my standards high - some people can deal with their skin, but I could not so that is why I got my extended Tummy Tuck. I can now look in the mirror and smile and thats all that really matters. I don't have to hate my reflection and that is a priceless feeling. Heres the pics.

food. There will always be reminders with scars and stretch marks, but at least now I can feel comfortable in my own body. Lifes to short to hate how you look. But thats just my opinion.

Thank you for candidly sharing your pics. I feel your pain and each of us knows to what extent we will go to be "comfortable in our own skin". I too have had many PS's and have the scars to prove it but I would do it all over in a hearbeat.

Good for you! You need to do what's right for you. I'm just hoping I won't have so much saggy skin so I don't have to spend the money for a "mommy makeover", even though I already know I'm going to need one. <_<

Wow , you look great ! may I be as forward to ask you how much did the Tummy Tuck cost you ? I was sleeved on Nov 13 , 2012 , my start weight was 237 and i have lost 51 lbs so far and I can already tell that my belly is going to be the problem. Once I reach my goal of 140 lbs , I want to also have a tummy tuck , but I don't know if I will be able to afford it .

You look great! Congratulations!! Did you have the kind of Tummy Tuck where they tighten up the muscles as well? I've heard that is extremely painful. And you had two? I'm not sure I'm ready for more surgery - but of course, being only 9 weeks out, I'm far from ready for it yet. Thank you for sharing!

When I said "two surgeries" i meant my vsg surgery and my tummy tuck - not 2 tummy tucks. My doctor did not need to tighten my muscles because they were not damaged. Unfortunately the doctor doesnt know untill he gets under there and most people need muscle tightening. I lucked out because yes I hear that adds quite a bit of pain to the procedure. He actually said I got a good looking 6 pack underneath so Im pretty excited.

5800 dollars was my total price. Im far from rich and saved up for part of it and financed the rest. I'll pay it off in a couple of years.

Was that in the US or in Mexico?

Was that in the US or in Mexico?

United States - Miami, Florida to be exact. Cost 5800 dollars and surgery was done in a hospital with an overnite stay.

Above I am clocking in at 377 pounds - no wonder I had excess skin!

Nice side shot of my massive stretched out body @ 377 pounds.

Yeah - the fats gone - but the skin is not!

If you like cows and are into men with udders I guess I look hot in this pic!

Not exactly gonna turn heads doing a pushup with my shirt off!

This is one of the "its not so bad" photos. Yeah - im standing up - the skin is draping nicely - however its an illusion!

Again - the skin drapes nicely and doesn't look that bad, but I assure you I could grab handfulls of excess skin.

Only 26 days Post op and finally I feel Normal. Good riddance to the excess skin. It only took two painful surgeries and lots of money to undo the damage I did to my body with food. There will always be reminders with scars and stretch marks, but at least now I can feel comfortable in my own body. Lifes to short to hate how you look. But thats just my opinion.

Good for you, for taking the steps to get rid of your excess skin! You stomach looks like its healing nicely. I plan on getting whatever surgery I need down the road to make me feel better

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
