ANY APRIL SURGERIES?....

Recommended Posts

Funny thing, today I feel like a completely different person. Maybe I just needed the required ugly Oprah cry? Today I showered and didn't feel like taking a nap afterwards. I took the kiddos to preschool and stopped by the grocery store afterwards for a few items. Now I am tired, but not the full-body all encompassing exhaustion. I tried some milk yesterday in a greek yogurt smoothie. That was a no-go. No bueno. I have heard a few people discuss milk intolerance after stomach surgery. Baby steps, every day..

Hi Jshaw! Glad to see your post. I too tried milk yesterday actually lact-aid and I had the worse case of diarrhea! I was never a milk drinker anyway. I tried it out yesterday so I could get more Protein in my chicken broth by making it a cream Soup. Never again took me all night and many doses of Immodium to bounce back!

I had surgery on April 17, 2013. I won't lie the first week I was sure I was dying! I had a lg hiatel hernia fixed at the same time, and I literally had trouble forcing Water down. The pain, weakness, cravings with no hunger were horrible. I even told my best friend and also my father, who were considering surgery, not too.

I have within the last week or so gotten to where I can keep fluids easier, and even some baby food.

I don't know if I was just one in a million with problems like this. I have only lost 20 pds since surgery, and that is mostly water weight. Having this surgery has actually made my depression worse (I can no longer use comfort food) and I can barely get around without being completely exhausted. I am taking all my supplements and am able to intake around 60 grams of protein/ 40 or so h2o but it isn't helping.

I could really use positive words to keep me going right now.

If you just sip your water, you can easily get 8 oz of water in without stretching your sleeve. My Dr told me to basically always be sipping in between "meals" to make sure Im getting enough fluids.

Hey Nikkivan, it gets easier. I really struggled at first. Each day the pain is easing and it is easier to move around. Hang in there!

I'm April 17 too. I didn't have a hernia, but it sounds like your rough time has more to do with the hernia repair than anything else. And "just 20 lbs?" That's great! My doc said we've lost more than average at two weeks. I've lost 21 according to my scales. 15 according to his.

I really believe your hernia is the cause for not being able to keep fluids down. 60 gms of Protein at this point is right on track! My doc has me on Full liquid diet for three weeks because the surgical site needs this much time to "knit" securely (heal) and he doesn't want anything but liquids in there. Just keep doing what you are doing. Keeping up with kids... Going shopping... That's tough!!! You had TWO major surgeries at once! TWO! We are supposed to feel physically weak and wobbly still. Pace yourself. Don't run yourself into the ground. If you have a support system around you, let THEM take the kids out and let them do the shopping. I'd say give yourself another 2 weeks, at least, to start feeling normal again.

Try Almond or Rice Milk, too.

I was sleeved and had the hiatal hernia repair on the 16th and couldn't even look at Water or Protein without getting sick...yesterday I finally met...actually exceeded the protein consumption with 96 grams. What I did was 1 an oh yeah strawberry cream shake in the morning (32 grams) I at a string cheese (7 grams) 1/4 Wendy's chili (4.2 grams) 1 scrambled egg (6 grams) 1 scoop of chocolate whey Protein Powder (42 grams) with 8 oz skim milk (10 grams) 2 tbs. Peanut Butter (7 grams) with a couple of I've cubes and blended it was soooo good this gave me 46 grams of fat, 39 carbs, 97 grams of protein, 24 grams of sugar and 950 calories which is pretty good I would just like to get the carbs under 30 try a diet similar and it might make you feel a little bit better it definitely helped me as far as the water I'm still only able to consume about 30 oz and I have lost 18 lb my Dr said this was great...I know when I came home I had gained 8 lbs of water weight so are you counting that in you weight loss...I don't I waited until I got to the weight the morning of surgery to calculate any weight loss...good luck and please contact me if you need anything since we had surgery a day apart and both had the hernia repair we are in the same boat together

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
