Kind of envying some people who don't have to do a liquid pre-op

Recommended Posts

I am on day 3 of my 1 week preop diet. Not bad so far, I get 1 Protein Drinks a day and a light meal, like WW or Lean cuisine. Boy do I look forward to supper time for that meal though! Lol!

Been faithful to get that Water, 64 ounces in and sugar free Popsicles are my new best friends! Lol!!! My surgery is March 11th and tomorrow I meet with admissions to get per admitted to hospital and do all my labs. Wish me luck. Getting so close now!!!! Yahoo!!!

I was one of those who had no restrictions. Well actually soft foods 2 days and Clear Liquids the last day. Don't worry this only will get you ready for what's up ahead. Good luck and hang in there !

OMG Mine was hell! Chardonnay for breakfast' date=' Pinot Gris for a snack, Cabernet for dinner...it went on and on and after the first several meals the days seemed to run together in a bit of a fog...

Oh wait, I was just told to stay under 40 carbs a day...I "chose" to make those wine based <img src='http://www.bariatricpal.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':P' />

Really....hugs! I was one of the lucky ones, with an easy preop, but my post opp was hell. Maybe a stricter preop program and a great surgeon along with that would have been a better option!!!

And by the way, you can have 8 glasses of wine and stay under 40 carbs <img src='http://www.bariatricpal.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':P' /> Not that I know stuff like that...but umm just saying....[/quote']

Oh gawd, me too.

My pre-op diet was hellish, and then on top of that I was forced to do a bowel prep that was more extreme than anything else I have read about on this site. But looking back, now that I am 6 weeks post op, the pre-op diet really helped me wrap my mind around what I was doing. It got me ready for what was about to come, and there was something sort of traumatic about it but not in a bad way that sort of changed my mindset and got me real serious about what I was doing.

Different doctors do things differently, but I think people who didn't have to do the pre-op diet might have a harder time AFTER surgery because its such a shock, and going in for surgery at your heaviest is certainly more dangerous. Any weight you can lose prior to anesthesia is only going to make you safer.

I start pre-op tomorrow. I am going to use the premiere Protein Shakes from costco for Breakfast and lunch and then a light meal for dinner. That is for 7 days and then 5 days before 3oz of Protein 3x a day and all the diet Jello, Popsicles you want, broth and Water requirements. If I can get through that I know the after will be fine. I am just worried about the head hunger after surgery. Will it really be less? Praying it is!

I was one of the lucky ones too. But that's not to say I didn't have to do something. After having my first appt. and class, I was put on a pre-op diet. That was Oct.2012. I did really good ate sort of what I wanted, just kept portions down. And by my last appt. which was Dec 10 I was down 20#. That was the goal my Dr had given me to lose before surgery. So he scheduled my Sleeve Jan. 14 , 2013! It's been going good ever since, and because I was eating healthy for 3 1/2 months before surgery. I just followed the pattern after wls. Of course way way smaller meals now:)

I WISH someone would force me into pre-op diet. Motivation has always been my roughest thing, and since mine is a program that doesn't seem to require anything, I am struggling to keep myself on track for the surgery date. I'm jealous of everyone's pre-surgery successes and admire how strong they had to be. I'm just hoping to get a little under 400 by my surgery date.

I wasn't required to do it because of my lower BMI, but I did it anyhow. I lost like 6 or 7 lbs. then gained it all back during surgery / IV retention.

Day 9 of liquids. Not hard at all. Still crave solids but once I was broke mentally, it was easy peasy.

Look at it this way, yes I was not required to do a pre op diet but, you will lose more weight before and after. You will have leg up!

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
