January Bandsters???

Recommended Posts

Okay, you probably have the 10CM not 10 CC. CC's is the amount of saline it can hold, the cm's is the length/size. Many get confused with the 10cm band thinking is will hold 10cc's. The VG band is actually I think 13cm, which holds 10 cc's. I was reading up on it and it works best for higher BMI patients. It takes longer to get to the sweet spot.

The 10cm band is much smaller, holds less saline (4cc's) and you usually get to restriction faster.

My doctor said the average amount of fills it takes to get a restriction is 3, some more, some less. So I wouldn't worry if you don't feel anything yet, that is only normal.

Just try and survive until your next fill. What you can do for your hunger pains inbetween meals, try and find a low carb/low cal snack. Maybe some string cheese (part skim), not sure if you can eat nuts, but a handfull of almonds always had curbed my appetite too. Also, if you can stand it, maybe a cup of hot broth between meals (me personally, I don't know if I can ever eat broth again, lol).

Your doing goodl!

You're right -- I meant 10cm. Sorry about the typo. Nuts are a good idea. I'll buy some cashews on my way home tonight. Thanks for the encouragement.

You should be so excited - your almost to ONEDERLAND! I am going to weigh on Sunday, I can't wait to get to 199! I hate when the doctor has to move the scales to show I'm over 200.

Just be careful with the nuts, they are higher in calories, but they are filling, just eat them very very slow. You might even measure them out so you know exactly how many you are eating.

Hey everyone!

Just an update, things are better between me and my mom. I called her sister and told her what was going on and she gave my mom a lecture and a half (it's funny because my mom is the oldest child). So I came home and it was all good.

When I was at my cousin's I helped her make choc. covered strawberries for her hubby and I didn't even want to eat one! It's weird how my tastebuds have changed.

I went to my ob/gyn today and she was proud that I took the step to surgery. But, she was a little upset that I refused to have my weight taken but then let it go. I also told her I wanted an IUD and she said no because I don't have children. Does anyone else have this problem? I really don't want to get pregnant for a long long long long time. She also won't put me on any birth control for the next three months to see how my cycle is and how I react to my medications once I'm able to swallow them. So now I have to be REALLY careful if I get romantic until May :faint:

I also found on Comcast OnDemand a walking program. It was with a workout lady and a bunch of senior citizens and I started doing it, and man did it kick my @$$! I didn't finish it, I think I'll start them in our March exercise challenge.

Hope everyone has an AMAZING weekend!

Keep up the good work everyone!

Andrea - I'm so glad things are going great with your mother again. That releives a lot of stress with you I'm sure.

Good job on turning down the choc strawberries - they are my FAVORITE! The thing I've noticed is when I first got the band, the first 2 weeks were PURE HELL. I wanted food so bad, I dealt with the head hunger and struggled with it, I drooled over every food commercial, I mourned the loss of food, like someone died! Once I started my mushy's, I've been a lot better. Now, I am dealing with NO DESIRE to eat. I start eating and all of a sudden, I am tired of it already. I'm still eating 1/2 cup of food, somedays maybe a bit more, and some less. I'm still waiting on the "hunger" to kick in. I'm sure it will, but so far, NOTHING. I'm wondering will I need a fill at 6 weeks?

The only problem I have with my obgyn, is I asked to get some bc pills, I only take them 1 or 2 x's per year, mainly to switch up my cycle in case we are going on a trip. She wouldn't give me any, I'M TOO OLD! Now that sucks! I'm finished having children, my DH took care of that for us permanently. But I felt like someone slapped me in the face when she wouldn't give me BC pills. I know I'm 40, but I never really thought of me as being old. I guess it was a real reality check.

Good job on the walking program. My goal next week is to kick up my walking, I'm going to try it back on the treadmill and see how I do.

HI shues..I'm glad everything worked out!!! as for the chocoloate covered strawberries..you're good..they are my favorites..I walk in the mall every day and they have a Godiva's there and I swear my mouth waters everytime I walk by them..I can say this, there is "sugar free chocolate" and soon I can make them for me!!!! YUM!!!! I wonder if charter has the walking program..I'm gonna have to look...

When it comes to the IUD I've had one for over 2 years, but I do have 3 children. My OB/GYN won't prescribe them to any one without children either, due to the risk of ruptures....I would say just play it safe and wait...easier said then done, I know...but it's for your own health...I hope thigs keep looking up for you!! Keep your spirits high and keep up the awesome job!!! Keep me posted!!!! smooches:kiss2: ,,Olga

HI! I'm also a January bandster but I just opened up an account. I've been viewing this forum for a while now. I'm so surprised that some of ya'll have lost so much weight already. It's all about self dicipline. I started walking/jogging in Memoral park out here in Houston recently, and I try to do it about 3 times a week (2.8miles). I think this op was extremely useful.

Hey girl! Cool...your mom was put in her place. I'm glad that your okay.

I tried to get the IUD too and my doctor said I could get it, but the worry is that if you are not in a monogamous relationship that you could get an STD and that would give a bad infection with the IUD and damage the uterus. Also, at Planned Parenthood you can get an IUD for a few hundred dollars. I just decided I wouldn't be getting any action for a while...so until I meet someone I'm not going to worry about it.

Keep it up!!

Welcome Law Bandster! I'll add you to our master list! You're doing great!

I agree with you, self dicipline plays a big part in this, even though our little band friend is there, he is not always working - especially before you get a fill. Exercise is also important, the book I'm reading says you should exercise EVERYDAY for 30 minutes, some type of exercise, swimming, walking, something. This is the area I must work on!

Welcome again to our group and congrats on being banding and losing 21 lbs forever!

Thank you for the warm welcome! I just recently (Last week) began my exercising. Slowly but surely it feels more of a natural thing rather than a forceful thing.

I'm starting to actually enjoy exercise since I know it will help my body kick in more weight loss! I know my body is not used to having so little calories so maybe it will enjoy more exercise instead!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
