i want to thank everyone here for the great discussion, comments, and information that i used in helping make my decision.

after a smooth and easy insurance approval process i am going under the knife on Wednesday for my sleeve.

i'm not terribly nervous, but that might change the morning of surgery. i feel very well prepared and my wife is 100% on board to take care of me. all of the little details are covered - from sending the kids off to my parents' house the night before and night of, to a stockpile of supplies i need, to the mental preparedness.

i'm ready to do this, deal with the "issues" for a couple of days, and get on track. i have big goals (maybe i should say small goals? haha) and a plan to track my progress very closely. my engineering mindset requires that i geek out on the details.

furthermore, i CAN NOT WAIT to get back on the mat to continue my jiu jitsu training. after a knee injury in september of last year i haven't been able to train much, which has had quite the impact on both my mind and my physical fitness. the weight i drop in the 4-6 weeks that i'll be out of action will do nothing but help the knee situation and drive me to get back at it hard core.

thanks again, and i look forward to my first post next week with a new stomach :)

Congrats on a new beginning! I just wanted to tell you that having a plan is wonderful, and hopefully everything goes according to plan....but please expect some things to happen that aren't on your plan. It only took me 4 days to recover physically, and I was back to kickboxing within a month....but as far as figuring out how and when to eat took a lot of work and a few months to figure out. I just wanted to let you know that you have to be prepared to deviate from the plan when needed...this was hard for me because I am a planner as well! Lol

Again congrats on the quick approval, and to a wonderful new beginning! :)

that's great advice and i had already thought about that. i mentioned the engineering mindset - i am always ready with a contingency and a margin of error.. managing big, complex projects will ruin you when it comes to spontaneity, that's for sure. being adaptive is the key to success.

You're in a great place! I'm very excited for you! This surgery was the BEST thing my husband (also an Engineer, so I know what you mean!:) and I did for ourselves. I agree with Sassygirl that you need to be careful about early expectations - I felt really bad for about four days and even regretted my decision during that time (that has completely changed!) and then it took me about a month to get energy back. Another odd thing is that on the day of surgery, neither I nor my husband were nervous at all (he had the surgery five months after me). I think we got to the point where we were so ready for it that we were calm. :) Take care, and keep us updated after surgery!!!

Well here I sit in the hospital bed after being sleeved this morning. I am feeling great. No has pain to speak of, and my abdominal area just feels like I've done too many sit-ups. I did have about 2min of nausea the first time I got up to walk, but that's gone now. The worst part has been the dry mouth.

Originally I was going to go home today but the doc offered an overnight stay and I took it. They have better drugs and I want to put off my hour long car ride until tomorrow.

Thanks to this site I was well prepared for the surgery and I am ready for the next steps. Thanks everyone and good luck to those heading down this path!!

Congratulations and welcome to the sleeve side. Great to hear everything went well for you. As for dry mouth get the nurse to bring you those (I cant think of the proper name lol) Q tip thingy that has like an oil on them. That may help a littlebit.

I'm able to drink a good bit of Water now, so the dry mouth has almost gone away. I'd say I turned the corner about an hour ago, and I feel pretty normal.

I'm heading home in the morning. Looking forward to a few days off to rest.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
