Wondering about my post op recovery

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

Just wondering if my recovery has been normal. I had my surgery on Jan. 25th, and had extreme pain on my left stomach muscle. It hur when I got up and down, when I just moved, and so on. Well, I was hoping it would have been better in a couple of days, but today is February 12th, and although it's not as bad, it still hurts really bad when I get in and out of the car, drive, when I reach for something on the ground, and of course when I sneeze and so on. I have started wondering if this is normal because when I talk to some people they stated after three days they felt fine. Some of the ones I spoke with mentioned they did not have as much pain but they did not have staples. Really, I think the recovery has been harder than my C-section. So, has anyone experienced this with their recovery?

My body still hurt three weeks out. I think I was 6 weeks out before I started to feel better but then I had to get back my stamina from so much down time.

Hello,

I have that same pain on the left side of my abdomen. It was actually getting better, then this morning it was hurting a lot. It worried me so I called my nurse that is part of my program. According to what she said, it is not very common, but sometimes it could be to the sensitivity of your body to the instruments that went through the layers...or the angle. I had 4 incisions. She basically said as long as I don't have any other problems like fever, bruising, hot to the touch, then I should be okay. I think it just needs time.

It is nice to hear that someone else has the same problem (well I'm sorry you have the same problem) because I was starting to freak out in my head.

I am four weeks post op and I can't sleep on my side or stomach. I have to sleep on my back at all times. I have a lot of tenderness all over my abdomen. I called my doc and he said the pain will go away. Give it time he said ... I am still waiting :/

Hi, You may have pulled your internal stitches or ripped them by doing a bit too much too soon. It does sound like that as it is when you are stretching. My op was on the 29th Jan and i started getting the pain about 5 days ago. No stretching, no heavy purses, lifting kettles etc. even turning the steering wheel can aggravate it.

Good luck.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
