Started 'Couch to 5k today' Anyone keen?

Recommended Posts

I've started it twice. I'm pre op. I never made it past the 3rd week. I wanted to but the last time my knees and shins have me such grief I just could bare another go. I am hoping that post op I'll have a better go at it.

You don't need to hope - it will be easier!!

This is a great conversation. I have been running for a few years. Its killing my knees thats why I'm doing the surgery. The weight is just not coming off and I'm tired of being the "fat girl" running. I did the Disney 1/2 marathon last November and I plan on doing it again this year. How is everyone managing energy with hard workouts? I CANT WAIT!!! I can't wait to see how running feels with this weight off. I just can't wait.

Not familiar with the app (yet) but I'm planning to do the 3Day/60 Mile Susan G. Komen walk this August.

I started the C25k yesterday, it surprised me. I have knee problems and the last time I tried to jog I felt like my knees were going to kill me. I was able to do it yesterday without pain but I was so out of breath.

My girlfriend and I decided to try a 5k in the fall, I hope I will be ready by then

Completed week one! May need to repeat week one next week, hips don't want to loosen up to jog. But 13 minutes on the treadmill is a goal in itself!

You should feel free to repeat a day or even the whole week anytime you feel like it. Listen to that voice in your head, it will not steer you wrong....unless it tells you to quit and go to pizza Hut.

aggiemike - I just keep telling myself "don't get hurt!" I'm a little older and I want to push myself, but not into pain and/or injury... I've never run in my 41.5 years so it's all very new to me. I don't know what to expect so I'm taking my time feeling it out.

I too, question the importance of pace or length of time running. Is it better to run slow for the time or distance you're going for, or run faster for less time/distance? I decided to run a little slower for now, but that's just me.

Keep it up and we'll get there!

Exactly how I feel. I'm 44, my competitive nature is long gone really. I learned this lesson from cycling years ago. I rode my bikes all the time, and always pushed pushed pushed no matter what to keep a certain speed. On a windy day I would not enjoy the ride at all because I had to push so hard to maintain my speed. One day I took the speedo off and through it away, and I loved cycling again and have loved it ever since. So I run the same way, no regard for speed but just try to run a certain amount of time and/or distance, get in the exercise but also enjoy the scenery. When I'm done I feel refreshed rather than feeling like I was on a death march.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
