Gained weight before surgery...

Recommended Posts

So, my doctor said I should lose 10 lbs. before surgery. I didn't... I gained 4, and my surgery is on Feb. 12. I have been eating the stuff I like, kind of like a "last meal" situation. I have to see him on Friday. Do you all think he is going to cancel my surgery? :(

Prob depends on how strict your Dr. is. i have been told that my Dr. is VERY strict. we even have to take a test prior to surgery on all we have learned, and post op requirements. I would do Protein and shakes the rest of the week, and water..Good luck:)

my Dr has me on a 2 weeks liquid diet before I have surgery.I don't understand why he has done this for you.

Go online for per-op diet for Sleeve and see what it has to say and you can talk to your Dr.when you see him.

Good Luck..

I had to do the same thing today, I lost 11-12 lbs, and my Dr was truly excited for me. Your surgeon might cancel. Losing weight prior to surgery shows him 2 things, that your liver is shrinking and that you will and can adhere to the protocols after your sleeved is performed. You don't have to give out the foods you like, it's not like you will ever have them again, you will just in smaller amounts. I would get on the that quick face and in a hurry. Even during my preop diet or what my Dr's office call is my Bari Diet, I till ate the things I like with the exceptions of the carbs and the amount of it I eat. I love Chinese food, so what I would do is got to the buffet and get a to go box and maybe a tablespoon or 2 of rice and the rest veggies and protein, eating most of the protein first, why leaving less room for me to eat all the rice. And it worked 12 lbs lost. I even had a cookie and an orange slice or 2 every now and then......

She probably means pre preop! My dietitian told me it "wouldn't be a good idea to gain between my last visit with her and my visit with surgeon

Thanks for all your responses all! My doctor told me to lose 10 lbs. but never put me on a liquid diet. However, I put myself on it because it seems like the right thing to do based on all te things that I have read. Im taking Special K protien drinks and Crystal Light. And of course, lots of Water. Thanks soooo much again!

I did the same thing. My nutrionist really got on my case but "forgot" to send that I gained to my surgeon because he would have cancelled my surgery. :( Funny enough, I wasn't weighed for 2 weeks (the time between seeing the nutrionist and surgery day) and they didn't weigh me on surgery day either. So, I'm not sure he would have known otherwise.

Anyway, just do what you can to take it off. Good luck!!!

Wow I was weighed the week before, and they definitely weighed me right before going into surgery!!!

Guess they didn't trust me? :P

But I think it also has to do with sedation??

Just a guess...

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
